Well, turn around was a week, return shipping came back 2 day air and the unit seems to be functioning perfectly. Items replaced were motor, spindle and firmware, along with lube and cleaning. One little scratch on the right side is new but so minor that I cannot complain(and it might have even been there beforehand?).Unfortunately, my original box has not been returned and I'm a bit pissed about that(as I did request it back). I called Sony repair and was informed that the box has been "recycled"! Also found out no OEM boxes are available. Ugh!!
Anyway, my question is...does the unit have to go through another break-in period before it reaches it's maximum potential?
Follow Ups:
Main answer. the electronics that actually pass signal are already broken in so the motor assembly should really not need a break in..but watch the performance carefully. Some people report that electronics that has not been used in a while will need a "re-settle-in" period. FWIW, take that with a little sugar..
Such a PITY that your original box is gone. My question:
How many new scratches did the unit accumulate in the process?
My ES777 has some nasty marks on it and yes, my original box was also "recycled" but this was before I bought it as I purchased second hand and relied on the words of the original owner how the "gouges" got there. (sad, not a good situation)
the scratch buffed out, being on the high gloss side panel made it an easy fix with polishing compound.after running my PAD break-in cd through the player and playing a cd on repeat all night, I can report the player sounds very nice and I am very satisfied with Sony's overall customer service.
Guess I'm good for another 5 yrs.
DAMN....did not put my name in the name slot..an -o0 appeared ..LOL
Sorry, couldn't help myself.
Regards,
Geoff
