Yes, replacing the clock on this CDP is probably the single largest change for the money and may give you 20% of what's acheivable with an all-out assault on the SCD-1.

Thanks Dave. 20% seems huge for the cost/performance ratio!Just found out, getting my SCD-1 back on Friday, as Sony Repair Service came thru like a dream, even 2nd day air return for free. Turn around time was a week.(4 days in the air, 3 days on the bench).
Plan to give Bill Thalmann a call thereafter.
A very very smart move. You will then be off of the disc player upgrade roundy round with the most simplistic, stunning sounding Sony player obtainable. You will never look back. It will blur the line between SACD and the best vinyl. Heck, CD will give vinyl a run for it's money. And you won't run the risk of losing your fine player or have it pinged by UPS for each subsequent upgrade.
Hi Allen,I've been following your posts for a long time, and find them very informative and helpful.
Yes, I have gone over the list of mods and see many options await me. But for now, just looking for some of the "biggest" performance improvements based on costs is foremost for me. I don't mind going full-blown but need to see(hear) the differences before I make such a commitment.
If you are located in Southern Califorina and welcome to audition my SCD777ES with VSE 5+ mod.
Hi Stang,Thank you for the offer, unfortunately I'm on the other coast.
