I just got word that my Haitink set just shipped.....along with 8 other SACDs (including Fischer's Mahler 2 and some Membran jazz that I will give a shot) to add to8 other unopened SACDs. But I will certainly put Beethoven 9th high up the queue.

....with something other than the Ninth, since this is the piece where the difference between Haitinks approach and the usual massive finale is most apparent.I'd suggest starting with the First, where his strengths are evident but the difference is not jarring, then proceeding to one of the middle symphonies, and then on to the Ninth.

That will be my first shot for this symphony in MCH. I'll let you know how I feel about it after I listen to it this weekend.I'm tempted to order the Haitink but I'll hold off for now. The asking price isn't as good as what I got the Vanska for.
