No but thank you for the information. It's always good to get references from past expediences.I'm on the east coast, actually not far from Bill Thalmann of Music Music Technology and might give him a call to see if he can help me out. Also might even consider going for the Level 5+ mod while I'm there if I can.

...i will 3rd the proposition that bill thallman is great....he drove over 4 hrs to hear my scd-1 when i was having trouble with my scd-1...fixed the problem and subsequently installed my 5+ mods to my player...great guy and superb at what he does....
The cause of the misreading problem is well known and comepletely understood. It is also easily and perfectly fixable so your player should function perfectly for another 5-6 years before needing another service.the machine is otherwise bullet proof - and I personally consider the misreading problem is a small price to pay as it is so easily fixed - when judged against the positive benefits of the players overall potential.
Regarding it's potential, I suggest anyone interested going to Positive Feedback Online
s website and checking the latest 2006 "Brutus Awards" list...
I have no axe to grind here, but I can second the thought that Bill Thalmann is a first rate guy who takes pride in his work and knows what he's doing. Highly recommended for any repairs or upgrades you can think of.
Bill Thallman did some MAJOR repair work on some VTL amplifiers that I own. He also did some repairs, and installed the "firmware upgrade", on Sony SCD-1. He also did the VSE "level 4.5 mod" to my SCD-1.I agree that he is totally honest, prompt and a pleasure to deal with. Also, I have never had any further problems with anything he has worked on for me. First rate!!
