Hiya. I've been enjoying my XA777ES the last few months. After playing a RB CD, then putting in an SACD, the player defaults to the RB layer. It's a minor annoyance to reset it each time, and it's been noted on this forum several times. Has anyone found a way to make the player always search for the SACD layer? Most, if not all, cheaper players have this feature.

Seems to be the nature of the beast. On the other hand, once you play an SACD, you don't have to push the button to play another one. At least mine works that way. And single-layer SACDs always default automatically.
Mine works that way too, Dave. The only issue is when I've played an RB CD and then put in an SACD. Again, it's a very minor issue, but occasionally I'll forget, sit down, realize it's defaulted to the CD layer, have to get up, etc.How lazy can I get?
Here we go again. After praising the Sony techs in Laredo for bringing my XA777ES back from the dead a few months ago, last night I stuck a new CD (Herbie Hancock, "The Piano") into it, pushed "Play," and ... nothing. Tried it several times with the same result. The CD played without incident in two other players.Good thing it's still under (five year) warranty until January :-(
Um, the remote has a button that does that.
...but thanks, Bruce, for pointing out that obvious button I've been overlooking on the remote. I think I'll leave now before I humiliate myself further...
nor, frankly, is anything else about the operation of the player. You can do me one favor, though: tell me if you've figured out how to advance to the next track on the disc without knowing the number of the track you're currently listenting to and then punching in the next number on the remote.
I don't think there's a way to do that, and it annoys me. Every other cheapass CD player I've ever owned, beginning with the Pioneer I bought in 1987, had a "next track" button. Yet this -- in relative terms -- megabuck Sony does not.
Doesn't hitting the "AMS > > |" button do it for you?

Anyone here who has not made similar bloopers during life's journey please raise your hand. I doubt if anyone raises his or her hand. Besides it looks like not only you have benefited from this morsel of information.
