Art Pepper Meets The Rhythm Section: Is the sonics of the hybrid SACD version good?
I checked the Amazon: one customer commented that the JVC K-2 version CD is better.
What's your experience?
Thanks.
Follow Ups:
The CD layer sounded very nice in the vehicle, but I havn't had a chance to head the SACD layer yet.
There may be/have been 2 SACD versions or more. Fantasy may have done one, APO definetly did as I am listening to it now. For the money (approx. $12 vs. $24) the K2 version is VERY good. The APO SACD is EXCELLENT however. Now there is a XRCD24 version. Damnit!
I just listened to both and prefer the presentation of the K2. It's just more like music to me. Warm and room filling. The APO SACD may have more decay and deeper image but it's just not as much fun as the K2. This is not only classic jazz title where I prefer the K2 or DCC or SBM version to the SACD, Sonny Rollins Tenor Madness and Miles Davis Kind of Blue come to mind as well.
The music is great, and so are the sonics of the SACD. But it!!

I haven't heard this recording in any other incarnation, but the SACD is excellent.
I like the Art Pepper + 11 better. Great tunes and sound that'll blow your hair back. Their version of Round Midnight is absolutely killa.
The old silver MFSL beats the pants off the SACD, too.As for the Rhythm Section disk, I think Jimmy Jones described the differences perfectly.
some of those old MoFi silver jazz discs are quite good. While only having a few of them, the few I have are excellent recordings of excellent music. Some here have claimed that the MoFis are rolled off on the high end. Why is it OK for their speakers, pre amps, disc players and the like to be rolled off in order to eliminate glare, but not their recorded media?
I agree with Ozzie....the + 11 is a great SACD especially for the age of the recording...late 50's
Take it from me, the original LP on Contemporary kicks butt, too. So also does "...Rhythm Section".
