Thanks, folks, that was very insightful. Is there an integrated, fully analog mch amp that allows playing DSD without digital conversion and processing, preferably tube type?
I just don't like the idea of 8 boxes. 5 speakers + sub already make too much clutter.
Follow Ups:
One guy suggested he'd build me a six channel tubed preamp for "the right price" (and I might take him up on it, eventually). I don't if a off-the-shelf 5/6 channel tubed integrated amp exists but I'd bet someone can custom build one for you (though I imagine the price would be fairly steep. I'd want the flexibility to swap out preamp/amp stages myself.
As I said before, I have 3 HK tube stereo integrated amps that sound extraordinary, much better than several Scott, Fisher, and Bogen integrateds that I have or used to have. With these HK amps, right speakers, and DSD playback (Sony DVP NS999ES), I have nothing left to wish sound wise. Becaise these amps have a lot of chassis space, it is possible to put all 6 channels on the same chassis. Of course there are problems of organizing volume, balance, tilt, and tone controls, and beefing up the power supply, so I was thinking whether I should undertake this project or just buy something if it is available at a reasonable price.
