I'm going to be buying this next week when I go to Philly to hear the Orchestra. I was at one of the performances (the Friday afternoon one) of the Mahler. I was sick as a dog but was still very taken with the performance and I am not necessarily an Eschenbach fan. There were, for me, a number of "goosebump" momments, so I very much want to hear the recording.
For the record, I have heard the 6th live many times: Steinberg-Boston, Abbado-Cleveland, Dohnani-Cleveland, Solti-Chicago, Levine-MET, so I have a very high standard for this incredible piece. For me, the Eschenbach one SHOULD be excellent, given the high level of recording quality from the first two releases from Ondine.
So many performances, so little time.
Follow Ups:
I thought the MCH sound-quality excellent with lots of revealed detail that I thoroughly enjoyed. The performance is M-O-R: OK but not hugely inspiring. Too many other 6ths out there with smashing emotional impact.
I realize it ain't supposed to be so (at least so I'm told) but this wasn't the first hybrid disc that folks have raved about, or at least spoke kindly, that I've found deficient on RB playback. Is it me, or is RB playback variable on hybrid SACD discs, especially MCH encoded ones?
I never bother with the RB layer any more.
