In Reply to: Sony DVP-NS-Players that have the CXD 9804R Chip in it... posted by Defender on October 30, 2006 at 11:52:05:
Yes, 775V, 875V and 975V are PCM only with Mch AKM DAC which DSD inputs are grounded. The CXD9804R inside is a re-labeled MediaTek MT1389EE. It is capable of "Pure DSD" but it is set for PCM conversion (88.2/24) allowing for Mch adjustments. If Mch adjustments are turned OFF, the SCD-CE595/SCD-CE2000ES is a "pure DSD" player.
DVP-NS90/92V manuals are not available yet but I'd assume (being entry level players) they will use the MediaTek MT1389EE single-chip-universal-player as well and will convert to PCM. As far as I know, all current model universal players in the $300 range use the same MediaTek chip and are set to convert DSD to PCM – Pioneer, Yamaha, Sony, Philips, Onkyo, Oppo are some of the examples.

fyi, the HK DVD 47, on sale at amazon for $249, seems to output pure dsd:Frequency Response :
DVD (Linear PCM): 2Hz – 22kHz +0/–0.5dB (48kHz sampling)
DVD (Linear PCM): 2Hz – 44kHz +0/–1.5dB (96kHz sampling)
DVD (Linear PCM): 2Hz – 88kHz +0/–0.5dB (192kHz sampling)
CD: 2Hz – 20kHz +0/–0.5dB
SACD™: 2Hz – 100kHz +0/–0.5dB

just spoke w/ a friend who works at Harman, and sadly the word is the DVD 47 converts to PCM, so the question remains, is there a true universal player in the under $400 range that doesn't convert everything to PCM?
Alex or Allen:would it then be possible to mod the Sony NS90/92V (I am sure he uses the CXD 9804R chip but I do not know if in this case also the MT1389EE is underneath) to use its PureDSD outputs and do the D/A conversion with the AKM 4358?
Since the AKM chip has native DSD and PCM inputs it is maybe the better sounding solution to hold the DSD signal until it is converted to analog.
Yes they are, want a copy?
Could you send me the DVP-NS90/92V manual too? Thanks:)))
...Thanks Allen!
so what's the word from the manual on dsd-pcm conversion. ja? oder nein?
