Many of us can still use the digital input for other digital sources that maybe lying around like a Minidisc, a Sattelite receiver, a DAT player..They will surely all benefit from a great DAC inside the main CDP..I personally find it very convenient Kal..I know it's not a MUST for its inclusion but would be a really nice feature, especially for the $10K asking price of the player..
I've a portable minidisc and my dvd player ( I watch movies in 2-channel) and with the Accuphase DAC input I get really great sound that way.
The main problem here is the poster's insulting attitude and his know it all and very rude manner..

With the amazing ability to play back either FLAC or Apple Lossless, or to use a digital cable or satellite TV receiver, - we should come to expect manufacturers to provide at least 1 digital input on a $10K player. Digital components are the worst value in audio, and deliver far too little for the price. (If one spends $10K on just about any amp out there, - they're getting so much more value for their money).Judging what is the "better player" is a moving target, and plays so much to personal taste. The Meitner is IMO a standard of the industry and a player that is a beacon, reference point of neutrality and detail through which many people judge other players. Is the Audio Aero Prestige a "better" player? Is the Esoteric? How does the Ayre compare? Whether or not you think any of these "top tier" players are "better," - ALL of them should be riddled with features at that price point; especially with some of the junk transports that some of them employ...

Hi Sordidman,Tks for the kind words. I didn't mean to demote the Meitner, I was just getting back at the poster..:)..Ive never heard any EMM digital product but I'm sure they make some of the nicest sounding digital gear around, I follow up regularly their online reviews etc..
From my humble experience with top of the line digital players I've come to believe that nothing is really bad, good, or better. Just that each has different 'strengths' and 'weaknesses' but are on the whole great sounding players with different sonic signatures etc..

Apologies, I didn't mean to imply that you were dragging down the Meitner..I was just using it as an example of one of the higher cost players, + standard of the industry type of thing, - associated with a commeasurement level of quality....Cheers,
