Does anyone know if Deutsche Grammophon will be offering the full Abbados's Mahler Cycle in SACD? Up to now they have published only several of the symphonies in SACD.
Follow Ups:
I see where his Mahler 6 BPO SACD is Grammophon's record of the year. Maybe DG should reconsider. Anyhow the 6 and his Mahler 5 are the only Abbado/Mahler SACDs I've been able to find. I currently have these SACDs on order. I'm looking forward to listening for the differences, comparing with the San Francisco Symphony recordings. For what it's worth, EuroArts has been releasing DVDs of Abbado's Lucerne Festival Mahler series. So far I've bought his Mahler 2, 5, and 7. Seeing and hearing this orchestra is a real experience. I've never seen a full orchestra of musicians put their hearts and souls into the music as these musicians do. Wonderful performances.
Can you tell the bit depth and sampling rate of these DVDs?
As you may know, DG currently has no plans to releasse further SACDs. The one SACD they released lately (Salonen's Sacre) was probably released for contractual reasons. Some of the recent Mahler discs by Abbado were released on CD only, so even if DG resumed their SACD releases I don't think they would reissue the whole cycle in SACD box set, as box sets are usually priced very competitively.
