After reading Stephaen Harrell's review of the TRL modified Sony 775 SACD/CD player, I decided to send mine off to them. That's right, I sent it overnight and got it back in less than a week and thank you Fed Ex for not running over the box with a truck. My initial impressions are very similar to Stephaen's, better frequency extension, less digital edginess, tight and articulate across the frequency spectrum, and overall it sounds so damn natural and at ease. I'm now hearing small details that I've never heard before, making me stay up late at night, listening to all my CD's and SACD's all over again. TRL says that the unit takes some time to break in, so I'm keeping it running as much as possible. Thankfully, this has been a long weekend for me, I have Monday off also.
TRL has one very satisfied customer, I'm very happy with the player and can't wait until it fully breaks in.
Follow Ups:
Congrats on the Sony w/mods Just like fine wine IT will improve with some time. I had TRL work the magic on my Shanling T-200 back in October of last year(see post), and the results are nothing less that spectacular. Better overall dynamics, resolution, focus, and a soundstage to die for. Gone is the tinny transistory like digital sound, that has been replaced by a musically involving adventure. Bravo to the TRL.
Any Shanling T-200 owner absent this mod must endure “tinny transistory like digital sound” ?
I am enjoying mine too. Please post a review when you're ready. I started a TRL category under "SACD players (modded)". Enjoy
