from David Hurwitz. An absolutely glowing review of the 4th and 5th Symphonies with Vanska and the MSO. OK, I swore I wasn't going to reward a business for giving us still another Beethoven's 5th yet in *any* format, but I guess I'll take the plunge now. I feel bad complaining--esp. when the DVDA'rs going into convusions of ecstasy after EMI releases one (1) uno DVDA this month--but I could sure use some more R Srauss releases, some Elgar, or Prokofiev. K, I'll stop complaining.
Follow Ups:
Have you heard the DG release with Hillary Hahn of Elgar's Violin Concerto? There was a favorable review of her playing this by the Washington Post this weekend, live in New York. I find it to be an extrordinary multichannel SACD release.
I agree - listening in stereo mode only in my set-up. Extraordinary sound and performance!
I don't care how good it is; even if they are selling the master tapes I'm not interested in spending more money on Beethoven symphonies.I'm still complaining about the lack of Mozart (operas, chamber, concerti), R. Strauss (operas), Wagner, Verdi, Bizet, Janacek, Prokofiev, Shostakovich, Brahms, Schubert (chamber, lieder), Beethoven (chamber), Dvorak (chamber), Martinu, and Stravinsky (something besides the ballets) releases.
