This actually died a while ago but I'm getting tired of getting up off my dufus to change tracks, pause etc.
Follow Ups:
Take the batteres out and get a short piece of wire and touch all the battery terminals together, this may reset the remote. A Sony tech showed me this trick at a drop off service center a while ago. I just did this on my 333es remote the other day and it worked. Also make sure the command switch on the remote/player menu is in the correct position.
See if it comes with the Codes for Sony. Or, contact Sony and see which other models remotes will work, and buy one on Ebay. DO NOT pay Sony's $60 price for a remote.
I bought the Sony universal remote RM-AV3100, and now use it for *all* my remote-controllable equipment (including the SCD-1) instead of the individual remotes. Keeping all those remotes in order was driving me crazy. This unit has been a life-saver--only problem is that it's too big to operate with one hand, but you get used to it. Also, the screen is a little dim. There are cheaper remotes that might do the job, of course. Ask Sony, as Duilawyer recommends.
