And they took the signs down as I left!!! 1 day sale, they now claim! Aholes!!!Big Fun was $21.63 + 6% tax
Yo Ma Ma Brazil was 16.81 + 6%
Living Whatever "Thus Sprach Zarathustra" was $8.99, and Explorations by Evans was 14.99 (BFD).
So they raised their prices and then gave a 22% discount.
BTW: Sax Colussus was $25.99, and Wes Montgomery's were $21.99!
Follow Ups:
It was plain as day on their website.Saved a a bunch dough on the internet last night.
"Where are we going? And what am I doing in this hand basket?"
...at the Tower in Cherry Hill, NJ, the sale was ONE DAY ONLY (XMas) for CDs, and the discount was ~16% off of any non-sale items.
The 25% sale until Monday is on DVDs only.
I went home empty-handed. Their prices are way too high.
J
credit balance was too much for me. No deal, I paid $68 for what I could buy online for about $67. And the Yo-Yo Ma has beautiful music, but harsh sound.
I'm sorry to hear you could not talk them into the 25% discount. Maybe I pressured them into something non-standard.The Fantasy SACDs are either $21.99 or $19.99 at Tower - way too much. CD Universe charge $16.89 on-line; and Media Play price these at $17.99, if I recall correctly. When the previous batch came out, CD Universe had them on special for $13.99. I don't think they ran a special on the latest Batch.
I bought a couple today - e.g. Benny Carter; came out at $16.49 with the discount (plus sales tax, of course). I could handle that, although it wasn't great. I had quite a few initially, but put many of them back. I only bought ones that were stickered at $19.99 as I figure I can do just as well elsewhere. I'm hoping these appear at Fry's.
You can probably get "Big Fun" (double SACD) on-line at the Sony Store with the AMEX discount for $15 or so.
The Mercs are cheaper at Streetlights - $16.99 - than at Tower - $18.99. And they often hand out $2 discounts, so I bought a couple at $14.99 a couple of weeks back. At Tower today I bought the Hanson at $14.24 before tax.
So basically Tower are expensive and you need the full 25% discount to bring the prices to a competitive level. The only thing about Tower is - they have a good selection.
By the way, you say 6% sales tax, which is the CA state rate. But there should be an additional County tax on top. We pay around 8.75% total sales tax in the counties around here. What's the total sales tax you pay?
Regards,
Geoff
Speaking of Fantasy releases...This SACD got rave reviews online for sonics, yet I consistently hear master tape recording defects on Wynton Kelly's piano, located at the left of the stereo image.
For Riverside standards, this recording is not very good, or the original mastertape is no longer available/usable, because the CD versions I have heard of this album (regular OJC, japanese K2) didn't sound as good as other Riverside sessions from the same era.
but to get Kind of Blue, which was $10.98, it was the dreaded 2 channel version!!! Which I have . And coudl not find another slection for free shipping. So, I am stuck overpaying Tower by $12.00 on 2 SACD's.
Sony did not have the other Stevie Ray Vaughn SACD. I sure got hosed on Brasillia, by Yo MaMa. I overpaid at Tower by $6.00. Wish I hadn't opened it; I would tade it back for that kind of bucks.
6%!
The latest batch of OJCs was indeed on sale at CDUniverse for $13.99 a pop. It's a great batch. Hope there are more in the works.
