If you haven't already tried it, the laser recalibration procedure is free less a few minutes of your time. It corrected some problems for me which were specfic to hybrid discs.
Someone posted here not too long ago (within the last three months) about where to pick up a laser assembly for this player cheaply. If I recall correctly, it's not a terrible job to install one yourself. The service manual has most of the details, I believe.

Thanks for the reply. Yes it is the dirty disc code (double entendre intended). I tried the self diagnosis test and recalibration. Didn't fix the problem. Haven't heard about the laser assembly replacement option. Any further direction is appreciated.
