I see this one around but I'm curious as to if this is really a conversion or something put out from the CD mix? Seems to me I've read it comes from Asia....
Follow Ups:
that restores the missing songs from the truncated american version & the HK SACD.I have no idea what these sound like, but I figure that for 12 bucks it's worth a try.
in the right portion of the window. When you click on that, you will get the screen at this link.
Caiman (from whom I've bought a number of CDs) is selling it for $12.11. they arrive quickly from Florida.
Thanks.
.
Whew! Thanks. I thought I was losing it there for a second.I'll figure out this new-fangled fancy-schmantzy computer gizmo sooner or later...
who appeared on many a hilarious LP back in the sixties once said in one of his skits,"Charles Lewis, you get away from that wheelbarrow. You don't know nothin' 'bout machinery!"
Since you don't accept private email from inmates, please contact me. regarding your Classic CD version.
I see quite a few references to the BMG version, which I have. I too, hate this version..Somewhere, maybe Ebay, I picked up a Classic compact disc version and imho, it's wonderful. All the songs are there, good depth of stage and so forth. I suppose it went hand in hand with the LP version, dunno..
It's LSOCD 6006
sgh, my concern is the same echo as what you stated. If so, it's probably no better than the Classic version.
Long story. This was a favorite of my fathers who died a young man...I've never been able to put this one away. IMHO, I think it's probably the best live performance ever put to a recording medium..
the rca rbcd is a WONDERFUL transfer. even the squeaking kick drum beater is to be heard. my kids (now in thier 20s)cannot keep still to this. it is partipation music. i have the vinyl that says 'recorded on the spot'on the cover. that and 'returns' are great recordings.
it sounds great anyway. Based on the first 10 Living Stereo reissues they recently released, the Belafonte is considerably better sounding.Count me among those who would love to see RCA/BMG do it right this time on SACD by restoring the four missing songs, but I would be disappointed if they botched it as badly as most of their first 10 USA SACD releases.
Hi,I owned the Classic Records 2 cd set and the import RCA SCAD, the classix sound better hands down, the SCAD bright not much better then the RCA release years ago.
It really gets down to the care of transfer, be nice to see a true SCAD taken from the master tapes and mastered with care, why not a box set of both concerts? That be a four cd set!!
my two cents
"why not a box set of both concerts? That be a four cd set!!"Actually, that would be a three -CD set: the second concert fits on one CD. ;-)
Unless the second concert is also truncated on CD...is it?
have been originally a 2-LP set. I've seen both using Google.
Oh, it's two LP's all right--just not sure if it's one or to CD's. ;-)
But a little pricey for some folks.
This is one I'd love to see get some tender loving care...and converted to hi rez....Any format would suit me..
It's a good one from BMG Hong Kong. But there has been some suspicion that it was not a transfer from the analog masters.
It's the same botched up version that came out on CD. The original LPs had extra songs (including the hilarious "Man Piaba"), and the onstage commentary by Harry.
Is there a CD or SACD that is truly complete? What about the Classic version mentioned above? If not, I'll copy my worn-out LPs to CD, and sound quality be damned.
Howdy crooner.....Yes, the Classic version on CD is complete....nice sound too!You can find the Classic version on 200 gram vinyl also. From what I hear, it's killer...

This place also has the SA-CD version. I wasn't aware that it wasn't complete. That's just blasphamy...
This set was a huge seller and excellent-condition and mint used LP copies are always available in large numbers on eBay. You can even snag it pretty commonly on open-reel tape (if you have the facility to play it, of course). No reason to settle for anything less than a complete, great-sounding copy of this wonderful recording.
I was thinking that the next step would be to make a CD-R of the vinyl copy--best of both worlds!I have the expensive Classic vinyl reissue, BTW, and while I'm generally a HUGE fan of Classic's stuff, I find the original LP's in this case to be subtly but audibly superior--they have that certain ineffable "something" in the ambience and sound of the voice and instruments that seems to slightly elude the reissue.
I could certainly live with the Classic, but if given a choice, I'd go for the original vinyl, dubbed to a CD if necessary.
my primary audio system is by necessity the one that I carry in my briefcase (at the moment an iRiver CD player and Etymotic headphones, not bad), so when I replace a worn-out LP, I get a CD if a decent one is available. The clever people who make SACD players have thoughtfully decided to make no portable ones, so they are just as inconvenient for me as LPs. I do have portable DVD-Audio, but the relatively short battery life makes it impractical for everyday use.
If anyone has the answers to all my woes, I'm listening (don't say "retire to Bonaire", I've thought of that one).
.
It has the complete concert with all 19 songs on two discs and sounds very good. I might also try a used LP or the new classic one, but there are plenty of great LPs never reissued on CD at all, and those are the ones I usually look for from dealers or on ebay. Thanks for your help!
Agreed. I enjoy my SACD copy.
