I purchased an SACD from them on around the 10th of Sept. On the 14th, I recieved an email, that it had shipped, and I would be recieving it within 5-10 days. After 10 days, I sent an email that I had not recieved it. They told me to wait until Oct. 5, then to contact them again. I contacted them yesterday, they sent me back an email again, that it takes 10 to 15 days for shipping, which, was not a "computer generated" reply.Obviously, unable to do the math, or to support their customers.
I will not do business with these people again!!!
Follow Ups:
Am surprised at your bad experience. I've bought from them numerous times in the last two years with no problems at all.Is it possible it's somthing beyond their control, like the label changing the release date?
I've placed 5 orders with them, with 2-3 SACD's on each order and I have never had a problem, except for the two week wait for shipping.
I guess if you want it faster you can always pay extra for express shipping.
I have always recieved the SACD's I ordered and not the Redbook versions, I can't help but wonder if people order the redbook version by mistake and are then pissed off when they get what they ordered, or maybe I've just been lucky.
What you describe is annoying of course. I ordered many times. They are the slowest shipper of all the internet retailers, but the stuff arrives. I once had an item they could not deliver for some reason only know to them, but my card was never charged. Yeah, they are not very efficient (why that is is a complete mystery to me btw), but I have no reason to doubt their honesty. And at 13,97 shipped (sic) I am prepared to wait an extra week.
Jw
regardless of the time, when they tell a customer to wait an extra 15 days beyond the origional day that it was suppossed to have arrived, then have the nerve, after emailing them at the "new" extended date, that I should wait another 15 days is inexcuseable. Free shipping is not worth "zero" customer service, and especially over a months wait.
I will use the other online sales sites, and give more of my bussiness to local stores. I care what I get for my $, and I expect at least a certain amount of reliability and accountability, I order at least 1 or 2 SACD's a week, not counting what I buy in record stores.
Hi Richard, I guess you do 'get what you pay for ' with these guys :-) I agree with you that the conduct you describe is pretty bad service. Fortunately it has never happened to me and apart from the occassional complaint about the order fulfilment time, I have not seen a trend indicating consistent poor customer service. Hence my initial post in reply to yours. But I totally see your point.Ordering a disc is a straighforward process. Order Pay Deliver. Done. How difficult can that be you wonder. It baffles me how they run their logistics. I once remember stopping my Columbiahouse membership because of administrative issues. Price is indeed not the only determining factor. But...
Competition on the web is just one mouse click away. Take one example: a famous audiophile e-tailer charges 17,98 for the Oscar Peterson SACD's. Add 5,95 for shipping and you're talking 23,93 for a disc that can be had for 13,97 including shipping. 10 dollars difference is too much.
I've found them to be somewhat vague on availability of some items; after placing an order it's sometimes been annoying to be told that item is on backorder and unavailable for x amount of days. Their projected delivery date in these cases is often optimistic, and in one instance I tried to cancel after a prolonged wait, and was told item had just shipped. No problem, I was instructed to simply return item, marked "return to sender".I've been quite satisfied with Circuit City's mail order service--selection is quite broad, prices almost as low as DDCD, and shipping times more reliable.
After responding back to them after the asked waiting period (Oct. 5, which is almost 4 weeks after I ordered, they had asked me to wait until Oct. 5 before emailing again)They then responded to me again, telling me to wait ANOTHER 15 days for my order, before contacting them again! This is NOT acceptable!
I've had a few items arrive 4 weeks after having been supposedly shipped. I'm not sure about this but it seems that bulk rate mail need not be delivered in a timely manner. For me, most items from DeepDiscount* take about 15 days to arrive.
DeepDiscountCD and DeepDiscountDVD are the same company I believe. They have excellent prices plus free (but slow) shipping. I usually didn't have any problems when ordering movie DVD's from them, but when it comes to DVD-A or SACD, they simply didn't have their act together. They shipped normal CD's to me at least 4-5 times when I ordered DVD-A or SACD. They do have decent customer service to take care of the problems though. But, the hassle is just not worth it. Now, the only things I'd get from them are movie DVD's.
Richard,Yes, they are very slow in shipping product. They also list many items that they are actually are out of stock. I received a few damaged discs as well, but most were the digipaks and the spindles were broken. However, I still order from them from time to time since it's pretty hard to beat the prices, but prefer to support my local independent shops.
I placed an order for 4 SACDs from them last month and received three of the four within the two week period specified when I placed the order. All three were indeed the SACDs I ordered. The fourth disc, Ryan Adams' "Heartbreaker" re-released on MFSL SACD was back-ordered, and has now apparently shipped. I haven't received this disc yet, and the shipping confirmation email didn't mention MFSL or SACD, so I'm awaiting the disc's arrival to see if it indeed is the SACD or just the regular CD shipped instead of what i ordered. The prices at Deep Discount CD are indeed attractive but not worth it if 25% of one's order is incorrect. We'll see...
Every couple of months, I order DVDs from deepdiscountdvd.com--same company/place as I understand it.Gnerally speaking, I find their service tolerable, and their prices are very attractive. I have read other posts of anguish because they couldn't distinguish CD from SA-CD, or DVD-A.
But I haven't had any problems with movies.
I, too, have mostly ordered DVDs, but a few CDs, and maybe no SACDs. Shipping takes a while (meaning 1-2 weeks), but I've always received what I ordered, and the prices are usually the best.
