In Reply to: Mick , I must correct you . The Elvis DVD-A sold about 15,000 copies in the first 3 weeks.... posted by ZS KEKL on March 19, 2003 at 15:14:57:
There was a post on this board giving a link to this post over at Steve Hoffman's site that quotes the actual Elvis DVD-A sales figures (not your imagined 15,000).http://www.stevehoffman.tv/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=9480
Perhaps you feel that the 636 copies sold at that time was a great success?
Follow Ups:
LOLMick , you and the rest of the pro-SACD gang , can believe whatever sales figures make you happy , but it won't change the facts that BMG has officially announced its support of DVD-A , and its plans to release more DVD-As .
Sincerely ,
.
"you and the rest of the pro-SACD gang , can believe whatever sales figures make you happy "as someone said earlier in this thread: "Why would anyone object to a correction , unless they have something to hide , or they are very fearful of the truth ? "
Oops, he hadn't planned on someone stating the facts! Damn, that kind of took the wind out of his sails, didn't it?ZS Kackel's post reminds me of a saying that an old car salesman used to tell me. He said, "Don't ever let the truth get in the way of a good story".
There is an expression : Never assume anything , or else you will make an *ss of yourself .Jack , it is clear that you assumed that I didn't know about the " 636 sales figure " .
I knew about it from the time it was posted in the other forum months ago .
However :
1. It was never verified that the " 636 sales figure " was the true figure , and not a mistake posted either accidentally or intentionally by the poster .
2. The poster never posted the exact dates that the " 636 sales figure " was supposed to represent , which left the time frame somewhat ambiguous .
3. Strangely , the poster never posted any sales figures for the Elvis DVD-A for the time period prior this ambiguous time frame .
4. Strangely , the poster never posted any sales figures for the Elvis DVD-A for the time period after this ambiguous time frame .
OTOH :
1. On December 12 , 2002 , BMG issued a press release " DVD-Audio of Elvis 30 #1 Hits Debuts at #1 " , which includes " The record breaking success of RCA Records' compilation of the 30 #1 singles of Elvis Presley reached a new level as BMG and RCA announced that Elvis 30 #1 Hits DVD-Audio debuted at #1 . The DVD-Audio , released on December 10 as BMG's first ever DVD-Audio , follows the success of Elvis 30 #1 Hits CD released by RCA Records on September 24 " .
2. On January 7 , 2003 , The Hollywood Reporter printed a story that contains " As of last month , Presley's DVD-A sold about 15,000 copies , nearly half of which were in the United States " , as well as " Following its market trial of Elvis 30 #1 Hits in DVD-Audio , BMG has announced its support for the format . BMG is planning to release 12 or more DVD-A titles this year and ramp up production after that " .
3. Now in March 2003 , BMG has announced the titles of some of the upcoming DVD-As .
Jack , you only strengthen my argument that SACD is very dead at BMG , if you believe that BMG sold only 636 copies of the DVD-A .
If it only took the minuscule total of 636 DVD-As to convince BMG to support DVD-A , and to release its major artists on DVD-A , and not SACD , then the SACD format must be in terrible shape .
Thanks Jack !!!!!
LOL
Sincerely ,
... will you jump into the 6 foot deep hole with it? Just kidding. For your info, I have capability to play both formats. I prefer SACD. I also saw, first hand, the lack luster acceptance of DVD-A at CES. This is known, ask anyone that attended CES. From what was seen there, it didn't look good for DVD-A format. Does that fact make me happy? Not really. It doesn't make me sad either. It obviously makes you sad though, which is more to the point. Isn't it?
It is doubtful that your posts will sway any SACD types across to DVD-A, but that wasn't the reason behind your post, was it? Things are slow over there, huh. For good reason ...
Seriously, congratulations with your latest news about BMG. From a guy that plays back master dubs, which are limited in quantity, I'm glad that you will have more software.
Best wishes,
We understand your need to lash out occasionally, it is sad, but you don't deserve our sympathy.
Now back under your rock.
.
And if they were just in jewel boxes, probably a lot of them were purchased by mistake. I feel kind of bad laughing; that is more pathetic than anything else.
> > I feel kind of bad laughing. < <Yes, it's more sad than funny at this point. We have a corpse and a fool trying to perform CPR.
