I have Mezzanine and 100 flowers. I always liked their Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan remix of Musst Musst. I saw a used copy of a 10 CD box called the singles for about $40- worth it>? Thanks in advance-away to camp on the shores of Lake Superior for a week. Meteor shower and hopefully some auroras. Until then............
Follow Ups:
Have ypu got the Craig Armstrong discs?
CA did arrangements for MA amongst many others and mainly does film music, but his discs are great. Any of them... but I wouldn't get the collected piano music first.
The others are fantastic.
The Sapce Between Us (try Weather Storm) and As If To Nothing (try Wake Up In New York with Evan Dando singing) are just tremendous records.
Is a good one to get once you're familiar with the original versions.
Horace Andy, MA's lead singer could have done it much better, never
mind what someone like Lee Perry could have done. Or Alpha and Omega.
Or Bill Laswell. Or Adrian Sherwood. Regards,
MP is not mediocre IMO-but Adrian Sherwood is my fav. I have most of the On-U recordings.
The Dub Syndicate and Bim Sherman are my favorites. The Dub Syndicate
with Lee Perry is one of the best reggae albums. And Bim Sherman,
both with Singers and Players and on his solo albums is quite the
dubster. And African Head Charge, though not with On-U, dub it
soundly, especially on their recent stuff, most especially of the
"Drums of Defiance" album. I could name fifty albums of basically
dub that surpass anything ever done by The Mad Professor, even
Scientist is more able. Is it not amazing, the sheer volume of
quality reggae? Regards,J.R., listening to Prince Lincoln Thompson and the Royal Rasses,
Prince Fari's "Cry Tuff Dub Encounter, part 2" up next.
Listening to Riddim: The Best of Sly & Robbie in Dub 1978-1985 right now.I still do like that Massive Attack vs. Mad Professor disc, probably mostly because I really like both Massive Attack and dub, but yeah there's tons of great dub stuff out there. Pretty much anything by Lee Perry is fantastic. King Tubby's always great too. U-Roy and many more.
I haven't really heard much Bim Sherman myself outside a couple tracks. Any specific albums to look for?
I think all his albums are extraordinary: of special note are "It
Must be a Dream," "Lion Dub," "Bim Sherman and the Dub Syndicate,"
and "The Need to Live." Regards,
Just got a disk by the Arabs the other day - If you're into King Tubby, Augustus Pablo etc. you should definately check them out. I'll get the title tonite.Best regards,
NT
Sherwood was put on the map by doing Prince Far I and The Arabs Cry Tuff Dub Encounter-Chapter Two. From 78 or 79 I think- It's a killer.........
Cd master made from vinyl-audible pops and tracking noise........listen well, you'll hear it......
ET
But they back the Prince on "Message from the King" not on "Cry Tuff,
pt. 2" which is my favorite dub album of all time and is a Harry J./
Prince Jammy production. The Virgin Front Line vinyl is far superior
to the CD.
Anyway, is Flabba Holt still the bass player for The Arabs? Regards,
