So I've been listening to the Future Sound of London's ISDN album in the car the last two days and began wondering what I ever saw in it.Is it me, or do they simply throw samples around just for the sake of doing so. Most of the tracks on that particular album never go anywhere. It is simply a collage of samples buried under reverb and delay. There are one or two stand out tracks, but the rest is...boring.
I need to go back and listen to some of their other work and see if it is holding up any better.
Thoughts...anyone?
Follow Ups:
My fave is My Kingdom followed by Cascade. Lifeforms and the fairly recent The Isness just don't go anywhere or do anything for me. My Kingdom kinda rocks, for FSOL that is. Check it out.

So we are in 2005 an i d listened isdn album more than 5o times in 6 months, is very clear that isdn it was an album for like a bridge to the others like dead cities which is the best.this was the masterpiece for them, also like the issnes it is now an experimental album,a tranzit for a pure new album who will be a very diferent style comparing with dead cities which is the end of that curent in their music.
Going to put on some FSOL now. Just received Sounds from the Ground, "tin" and Charlotte the Baroness, "electric manor" in the mail...I have to re-acquire some Art of Noise and see if I still like it. My memory impressions from the early 1980s, were that it was quite revolutionary..
Cheers,
DAFT
Who's afraid of The Art of noise?
In No sense? nonsense?Out of newer releases, 'Seduction of Claud Dubussy' is pretty good.
But the 'Below the Waste', with the B&W Emphasis loud speakers on the cover, is still my favourite. :)
The very early stuff, while interesting for the time, IMO does not hold up as well. I'm thinking of Who's Afraid of The Art of Noise, Daft, etc.IMO In No Sense Nonsense and beyond is probably their best work.
In fact, I will be so bold as to say that The Seduction of Claude Debussy ranks as their finest. I was blown away when I heard that album!
They have a DVD available as well which is cool, it is mainly them performing tracks from Seduction live.
The only ones I've got are Lifeforms and Dead Cities, and I still like both of them, probably listen to Dead Cities most. Never listened to ISDN.
It's a little experimental-over-sampled, as you say. But, I guess that I've just gotten used to it. It sounds pretty amazing on my system.I have LifeForms as well and i think that a song on Lifeforms is also on Dead Cities, - I don't like that. I need to revisit LifeForms as well. I won't sell Dead Cities though, - it's pretty good when you're in the right mood...

as lifeforms. I don't recall having the same reaction to those as I did to ISDN. I will pull both of those out and listen again.I also like some of the older stuff from accelerator, but sadly, I do not own the album.
