In Reply to: well that answered that question. What about the Sundays ? posted by rocky raccoon on January 26, 2005 at 23:47:31:
Sheesh....I feel for you man, - I got no answers to the Unkle or Junkie XL posts, - two that I thought the kids would know about for sure. It wasn't like we're talking about A Reminiscent Drive, Looper or Flunk or anything... :-)
That being said, I liked the Sundays, - they came round to watch my band play at the Coconut Teaser and we had a couple of tacos and Margaritas afterwards: they were playing somewhere on Sunset Blvd: this was back in the early 90s.. yikes... They were really nice folks, - the guitar player was taking the piss that night, - had us all crying....
Sorry, I have heard of the BooRadleys, - but haven't listened to them.. Who'd you compare them to?
Cheers,
Follow Ups:
I don't know anything about who they are, but I have their first [?] record and it seems to feature many guests, including Thom York. They remind me a little of Tall Dwarfs. Maybe they are a similar collaborative effort?
Yeah , sorry about the Junkie XL & unkle posts. I don't know 'em.
You met the Sundays ! You've seen Harriet Wheeler ? Heavens to mergatroid ! I am jealous.
The Boo Radleys are difficult to pigeon hole as they are sort of Rock Pop with realy catchy tunes & great lyrics & a tendency to deliberately collapse into discord & noise right at the end of songs. Giant Steps is a really good album (there are a couple of songs you wanna skip) but there are really some classics on there. It's tough but you could say Radiohead got drunk with, say, the guitarist of the Sundays, did a couple of numbers with Jah Shakas bassist & took a fair dose of Lloys Cole's melancholy.
at the Coconut Teaser...Never forget that night, = had some friends working at Gladstones on the beach in Malibu, - drank "Tidalwaves" there all afternoon. We got to the Teazer and there was this amazing fellow on the back patio making these extra-ordinarily delicious tacos from a taco stand: with the best and hottest damn salsa you've ever had: so hot that you started crying from inside the club. So anyway, anytime that you bought a taco for a buck, you got a ticket for a free Margarita: so, you can imagine the trouble that little Sordidman got into that evening... 40 tacos, 40 margaritas later..... I was adjusting the mic stand at sound check and the mic flew up and bloodied my lip, - blood everywhere on stage... whattanight.....The Sundays showed up halfway through our set and we got them hooked up with the taco man. Our singer was chatting up their singer/Harriet, - didn't really get a chance to chat much with her, and my wife was also there so....
I was in love even before I knew what she looked like just because of her voice, then Monochrome was due to come out and they were on Top of the Pops ! I heard the Sundays from the kitchen & ran in when I realised it was coming from the telly.
I think I need a Margarita......
