Hi folks,The integrated amplifier I'm getting has five line inputs. I want to hook up the following items:
CD player
CD recorder
Cassette deck
VCRCan I do this? That would be really cool.
The reason I'm confused is because the cheapo stuff I have now has inputs labeled CD, tape, phone, video, etc. This leads me to believe that different sources have different types of input levels.
Thanks,
Charlie
Hi, Charlie. I agree with Mark. You should be able to connect the outputs of all of the units you mentioned to the line inputs of your new integrated amp without any problems. There may be some differences in the output levels of the various units, however, so turn the volume down the first time you try to play them. Also, don't connect any of them to the phono inputs (if your integrated amp has them). Phono inputs have an extra amplification/equalization stage specifically for phono cartidges, so connecting a line-level device like a CD player to the phono inputs will result in severe overload and distortion. One final point -- you might want to connect the inputs AND outputs of your CD recorder and/or cassette deck to the tape monitor loop(s) of your amp. This will simplify recording. Good listening! -- DaveBTW, all of this will probably be covered in gory detail in the owner's manual of your new amp. Be sure to read it carefully first -- despite the overwhelming desire to connect everything up and start listening to music immediately ;-)
Keep the volume way DOWN and switch between the components. To be safe, maybe turn the speakers off while you switch. You'll know at once if there's a difference in level. I'm guessing the cd and vcr don't have adjustable outputs, but the 2 recorders should.
