The JC-1 was the first Levinson preamp, and the initials reflect the designer. The later designs with the ML appellation were designed by Tom Colangelo (sp?), if memory serves me right.
Actually the JC-2 was the preamp, while the JC-1AC and JC-1DC were phono head amps. The ML-1 was basically the same as the JC-2 with LEMO (Camac) connectors used in lieu of RCAs.
