I have a Cary 300SEI for headphones only and I'm thinking of getting the caps replaced with Audio Note caps. What are the appropriate caps to replace? How do I find out their values (to see if it's financially possible) since Cary isn't emailing me back with the info?
Finally, any thoughts to replacing the caps with AN?
OK, not finally...any recommendations for a tech in NYC area?
Follow Ups:
integrated, but the CAD-300SE LX20 mono block uses a 0.22µF oil-filled coupling capacitor. Two would be needed (one for each channel), granted that this is the correct value for the 300SEI.
You will have to take into consideration how much room is available in the chassis, which is in the small side, as caps vary in size.
Hopefully Cary will get back to you and/or someone who has opened up/worked on the 300SEI.
Other than coupling caps (the ones in the signal path connected to the output tubes) you have the option of changing, or adding to, the big power supply caps.
Again taking into consideration space limitations.
You might also check out V-Caps (link below).
What tubes have you tried in the Cary?
The only 300B's on hand are dead Svetlana's, but I do have a new testing pair of Tung-Sol 6sn7 GT's (like the photo).
Email if they are of interest and if they are OK to use in the Cary (the GT's have different specs than later GTA/GTB's).
Thanks for the info, david. Haven't seen you posting over at a'gon for a while. fell out of love?I'm ok on the tubes. I've been using some JAN CHS Sylvania 6sn7WGTA's from 1958 with WE300b's and i have some others on hand to play with. thanks for the offer, though.
I think i found a tech out here in nyc who works on cary quite often so i'll call him up tomorrow.
