I only wish I knew about this act when it was performing.....(The audio and video are a little "out of sync"....)
Follow Ups:
I had the first album, and thought it was a blatant ripoff of Duran Duran. A friend of mine just got "Colour of Spring," and I like it a lot. Just ordered that and the other three studio albums. Amazing what a band can accomplish when allowed the chance to develop.
Killer pop tune. BTW, Family Guy did a brilliant parody of this video. Cheers.
I suppose when you start getting as old as I am getting you forget things like not everyone knows who Talk Talk is....Didn't you buy the Billie the Vision album? Never heard back, guess it was a no go huh? :^ ) Oh well, can't win em all...
If you like Talk Talk you might like this. It's a single by Howard Devoto with his then band Luxuria. He's an odd bird but it's a great song and generally unknown over here.
Another gem is ex-Bauhaus frontman Peter Murphys All Night Long. The rest of the band of course went on to become Love & Rockets .
You can sure waste a lot of time reminiscing. :^ )
Iggy Pop. For this crowd you have to avoid the harder stuff, so:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y4hPnZUMBwA
1977, The PassengerI can't find The Romantics "What I Like About You" on youtube.

... almost anything off their album "The Color of Spring" is fantastic. Two of the first three songs on the album ("Happiness is Easy" and "Life's What you Make It") are fantastic. I used to like "It's My Life" until it was totally ruined by the tone deaf Gwen Stefani.
Great band, no question, but to this day I can't shake the feeling that Roxy Music music did this and did it a little better. Brings back some great memories though.

....a cover version by a band called No Doubt.....I heard that version several times, thought it was decent, but not great....
Then during a long drive roughly a year ago, I heard the song on XM radio, and it struck me totally different.... I was really getting ensconced in the song. I recognized the song, but it hit me as if I heard it for the very first time.
And in retrospect, I'm sure what I heard was the original version, for the first time. At the time, it also seemed strange, thinking the song was sung by a woman, but it sounded more like a guy on that occasion. (I presumed it was better quality playback.)
I've also found out the band Talk Talk was big in Europe, but did not take hold in North America.... (I don't think the band toured outside of Europe.) Only in recent time has the band been recognized. Until someone posted the song "Such a Shame" on Rocky a while back, I never even heard of the band.
The link is also telling- The depth of the original is totally gone..... It demonstrates how "prefab pop" can neuter the music.
Can't go wrong with 'The Colour of Spring' or 'It's My Life'.Best,
Big J.
Used to listen to them a lot in the pub, back in the UK. Brilliant, and arguably one of several strands at the very heart of the sound (of pop) of the '80s.
Must check I have decent pressings (analogue and digital) for posterity.

If you can find it.....

Pop and rock singers are called "vocalists," but operatic and classic jazz singers are called "singers".....Like, in the same vein, nobody ever calls pop or rock singers sopranos, altos, mezzo-sopranos, contraltos, tenors, baritones, basses, etc. .....
...rock guys like John Lennon and, oh, Bono are "vocalists"?And when Moody Blues go, "I'm just a singer in a rock and roll band", they're misusing the terminology?
;-)
I never even heard of this band before....As I said, there is brilliance out there.....
If you like Ana Torroja, you might like Sole from "Presuntos Implicados". Check the video linked below. If you liked it, look at Youtube for the tune "Fallen" which they sing with Randy Crawford. Very nice, one of my favourites.
I remember first time I heard them on the radio. It was "Life's What You Make It" and I loved it BUT I thought it was a Pete Townsend solo album. So, when I rushed to the record store I couldn't find it of course. The guy at the record store set me straight though. lol Anyway, yeah, great stuff. I have 3 of their CDs.
There is a live bootleg recorded (I think) at the then Hammersmith Odeon of Talk Talk performing the stuff from those albums.
If I ever see a copy I will buy it, but unfortunately it's a pretty rare thing I believe.
And while It's My Life is a good song and album, it's the albums that followed it; The Colour of Spring, Spirit of Eden (my favourite album, ever) and Laughing Stock (which I don't own) as well as Mark Hollis' s/t solo album, that always floor me. Brilliant music by a brilliant band.
