I already have a tube amp and pre, and a decent dac, and an ipod. I just want to put them together. Without using a digital DAC/wireless do-dad. Any thoughts? My local "genius bar" looks at me like I'm from Mars when I say "RCA, or DAC" , and a "whatz zat..(duh)" when I said that I had a tube amp.
Thanks guys.

If so, you want a cable that has a iPod dock on one end and RCA plugs on the other. The SendStation (the first item I bought to connect my iPod to a headphone amp) connects to the dock, then you are going to plug in a cable with a mini plug on one end and RCAs on the other.
Same for the iPod dock, but now the quality could be further compromised by running it while charging.
Something like what Ken at Audio Line Out makes would pass a high quality signal to your amp. I have one of his cables for an iPod to headphone amp connection. It uses cryo'd Jena wire and sounds fabulous.

the iPod docking station also provides a line out, and is a little more elegant than letting the thing lie on its side on the table
this will give you a line out from an ipod
oops, this would helphttp://www.sendstation.com/us/products/pocketdock/lineout-fw.html

...cables are a dime a dozen. You can pay a couple bucks for them or (probably) megabucks. That's all you need to flow an iPod output into whatever conventional input you have. If needed to can even have a custom cable built for balanced connections or whatever you need.
