Anyone else notice that Audiogon just changed their max limit for number of photos from six to three? Or is there something wrong on my machine/account? If I'm not mistaken, then this is utter crap. Their backward-thinking admins seem to believe it's okay to charge me more and I should expect less for my 100% ad cost increase. If this is how it is from now on, I'm done selling my goods there. After about 200 ads, they've finally succeeded in killing another long-time customer.
Follow Ups:
You think 6.00 is bad, mine went up to 15.00 an add this week. And I'm locked out until I sign up for the 15.00 rate with 54.00 left in my account. Which they will not refund back nor let me run the add that I payed 6.00 for. This is what I got after 7-8 yrs with no major problems.
From free to 2.00 to 6.00 to 15.00 what will it be next? for all those new sucker coming in?
Like what they emailed me in there last email, IT's TIME TO ""FISH AND CUT BAIT""!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THEIR EXACT WORDING.
IF ANY ONE WOULD LIKE A COPY OR FOR ME TO POST IT HERE LET ME KNOW.
Have any of you had trouble with ads dissapearing from the site?
For the second time now, I had 2 currently running ads just vanish! The first time (in Feb) they claimed I went in and deleted them (which I did not). There was no history of the ads except for the record of the payment for them.
They paid me back for the ads, then it happened again today, lost 2 currenly running ads.
I was paid back for those too, but this is really irritating.
Not I. But I only have two ads left, so not much of a sampling size here.
I agree the place is out of control. You do have an option however.Simply upload the pics to your own webspace (you do have some, every ISP allowcates some for customers. Phone them to get the location if you are not sure, and then download a freeware FTP program to upload the pics. It's very easy to do)
You can't use html unless you pay the extra 6 bucks (another outrage) but you can put the location in the text, and it should look something like this
http://home.verizon.net/~len/preamp01.jpg
And people can then copy and paste it themselves.
Two things:
1) Why should I pay an extra $6 to post a couple more photos? ebay is much cheaper then this.
2) They disabled the html ability altogether! So now they aren't charging $6 for html .... they've simply done away with it entirely. Why? Beats the hell out of me. Nothing they do makes any sense to me. I swear their admins suffer from severe logic deficiency.
OK, first I had no idea they did away with html entirely. That place really is one step from the manure pile. You don't have to pay the extra money with what I told you. Simply place a regular ad and put the images URL in the text as I showed you. The picture won't appear in the ad like it would if you used html, but people can copy and paste the links. Try this one, it's the audiogon field team

I swore last year I was going to look into doing something about making a site to counter them. This may be the final straw.
If you start another similar service, let me know. I'll hop on over and help get the word out.
Ive a TON of stuff to be rid of. AG greed has kept me from posting in some time. And I even have $ in my acc there.
2) They disabled the html ability altogether! So now they aren't charging $6 for html .... they've simply done away with it entirely. Why? Beats the hell out of me.Me too. What were they thinking? I've used the HTML option for some ads because I can tailor the format as I wish.
Nothing they do makes any sense to me. I swear their admins suffer from severe logic deficiency.
It's not their admins, it's management, although we have no idea of how many people are there. They just don't give things enough thought. I spent quite a bit of time on the phone with one of their key people one day telling them about some of the problems and how they could fix them, done so in what I hoped was in the spirit of being helpful. Apparently it didn't sink in, or they didn't see things the same. They definitely have a different set of objectives, or at least a different way of trying to achieve them.
Best regards,
Not much ever seems to sink in with the folks there. I've also sent them constructive emails in the past. Each time, they replied with a blanket, generic "thanks for your opinion" type of response but obviously didn't give my ideas any passing thought. Same results when I sent them civil complaints about some of their changes. I honestly can't think of a single change in the last 5 years that were beneficial to their customers. Do you remember when they tried to impose some really strange and complicated buying/sell procedure? Thankfully that idea didn't pan out. I don't have the same hope that the changes in the past couple years are also a fleeting (extremely illogical) experiment.Usually, greed is common motive amongst any enterprise. But some of Audiogon's decisions makes no business sense whatsoever. I sincerely feel their management have a severe disconnect with business sense.
Just when you thought it couldn't get worse...
I have to do some spring cleaning and was planning on listing a few there. Its free (as it is here too plus a much deserved cut to AA) so why not.Just wondering if anyone has tried it?
Oh and I too am sick of how AG has been running the show. They dont even have the rules posted as far as what can be listed and in what quantity.
I have not. All I'll say is I'm not a fan of their admin either.
We had some good times there before that lenny guy (or whoever) ruined it.
I have no idea what you're talking about.
I thought we were still talking about audiogon....not hificlassifieds.comLenny (or whoever) was the admin over at audiogon back when we all got tossed off of their boards.
He makes baby Jesus cry.
They are happy to take my money when I sell, but still won't let me post in the forums.
Len,At the end when the tab asks you if it is ok or No let me edit. If you hit the edit button it will take you to a screen that will allow you to post 6 pixs.
I tried it, but after I click upload, it stalls for a moment (giving me false hope that it's uploading), then tells me that I've reached my max limit.
If a potential party is really interested, maybe they'll email for more pics if you put something in your ad saying, email for more pics.Plenty of the ads I've looked at don't use all 6 slots or don't post any pics at all. Not sure how responsive they'd be, but it couldn't hurt to email & ask if they'd consider increasing the allotted amount, as 3 won't do some pieces justice.
A-gon has the viewer base & I've found it to be the best audio gear buying/selling site overall, so until something else better comes along, you gotta play by their rules.
Earlier this month I sold a Sony XA777ES on Agon for my asking price in 45 minutes, so I find it hard to complain. Had to really strain to come up with 6 pix (must have been just before the change), so the 3-pic limit won't be that much of a hardship, I guess.
I don't have much of an issue selling expensive gear there. At their current ad rates, it's still a bargain. My problem stems from selling cheaper items like tubes, tweaks, cheap cables, budget components, etc. But my principle issue with Audiogon's changes is that it's extremely unfair. They're charging me much more but giving me less in return, plus never notifying customers of these changes.
But when do they stop this BS.Charging more giving less but with ebay and AA clasifieds, maybe craigs list Audiogon is still the best place to sell gear and cheaper than ebay. But if they keep this up they might not be the best place for long.I would say I have posted 1000s of adds now....
I'm actually finding ebay a better place to sell tubes these days; Any tube I used to post in Audiogon were snapped up in a matter of 2-3 days, often within the first few hours. Nowadays, they sometimes don't sell at all. I really think Audiogon has driven out sellers and buyers from this market segment.Granted, ebay still is not as good for selling used components.
Looks like that's the new limit. wankers. they suck (Even more than they did before, which was a lot).
Are they still allowing 4 cables, tweaks, or tube pairs per ad? If so, this photo limit makes no sense (not that it makes any sense to begin with). So I guess to summarize what Audiogon has done in the last 5 years:
1. doubled their ad rates, all the while ....
2. make html coding a premium surcharge (doubling the original ad rate)
3. changing their feedback system so negative feedback is effectively eliminated
4. put restrictions on what you can list per ad
5. halved the photo limit.
6. and added absolutely no additional features or benefits to justify the ad rate increase or offset the things they've taken away.I'm sure I've missed a few things. It sure looks like they are consciously trying to piss customers off.
it used to be $2/ad-, now it's $6/ad.they suck out loud. someone needs to get some capital together and a little talent and mount a serious challenge. would think any sort of angel investor or vent. cap wanker would be all over that. just copy the audiogoon business model from a few years ago, except do it right and don't be a bunch of greedy a-holes like the current crop of audiogoon (mis)-management. I bet even stereophool would love to jump ship from the audiogoon partnership.
I agree that's bullshitt! Where do we go now to sell our stuff ?
