Hello out there. Could anyone recommend a new audio cassette deck? I know this technology is waning, but I have a friend with tons of old tapes, some of it is his own material that exists in no other form, and his old, old, old deck just died.
Follow Ups:
I have a VERY nice Yamaha KX-695 3-head deck with VERY low hours (less than 100 hours) that is not getting any use. I'll sell it for a very reasonable price...
some advice.Nakamichi has compatibility issues with other decks. Sony ES types are very good, and lots are on ebay. Aiwa like the 810 you were offered or any 80's 3 head with low hrs. will work.
I own a Sony 435 and it's a cheapo, with loud but functional auto reverse. However, I admit, it works pretty well, has Dolby B/C/HX Pro and two wells. Not a Nak, but still OK. The tapes made on it are decent and can go to anyone's deck without issues, unlike the Naks.
Tandbergs are great, but fussier and parts may be an issue. I have an old one. And an old Aiwa. But they need a tech to go through them and belts.
I have an almost new Aiwa AD-F810 with about 20 hours of total use time on sale at Audiogon (see ad below). I will sell it to your friend for $60 including shipping and double-boxed packing.
I have a JVC dual tape deck that is virtually unused. Includes all paperwork and original box. It's about 5 or 6 years old but in perfect condition. I'll take $25 plus freight from San Diego. If you're interested, e-mail me at: homebrew3573@sbcglobal.net

I see many nice decks in thrift stores all the time. They go for next to nothing. I have picked up several Nakamichi decks for under $15 each.
None ever that low on ebay. I picked one for my brother for $75 total shipped, with one bad meter (known), but it was a 660ZX and it is very substantial.
It is not an everyday thing. But I have seen several Naks over the years. A few have followed me home.
