Maybe it's been suggested before, but I find it very frustrating to notice I've made mistakes or typo in a post and not being able to correct it. The only way to do it now is to delete the message completely and repost. I've stopped doing that because it's too long and my messages are now full of typos, however long I proof-read them.
Would it be technically difficult to just implement an "edit" function which would allow one to correct his post?

well (doesn't work on Subject line for some reason). Also, I always 'Preview' for a last proof. And if I still blow it, I have one last chance before someone responds-I copy the text, delete, and then paste and make my changes.
And yes, typos still get through. For those, I never point out other's spelling errors, and hope people treat me in the same way. To err is human, etc. etc.(-:
Doesn't exactly leap off the page and belt me between the eyes.

-Click 'Tools'-Click 'Options'
-Click 'Advanced' in the drop-down
-Check-mark the 'Check My Spelling'

There is no "Options"/"Advanced"/"Check My Spelling" under "Tools".But I use the Goggle Toolbar Checker which is very good. And it checks the Subject line too!
Mozilla did a Firefox update for me a couple of weeks ago.More important, how are you doing Garth? Missed your sage advice on VA.

If you have the Google Toolbar installed it will do a damn good job of checking the text in the message box. Works nicely.

The subject line of your post should have contained its , not it's , and the second sentence of the last paragraph should have contained others' , not other's . I gather most spell checking programs don't catch such errors since the words used are correct in some cases.

So to show the possessive for a contraction, would I put the apostrophe after the fact (its'). I'll take your word either way (I'm here to learn!) and I agree with the others'/other's , but hey, what happened to my point about post correction karma? (-:
"It" is something of a special case. With "it" use an apostrophe only when you mean "it is," as in "it's my favorite color." Otherwise, do not use an apostrophe!
I have to be honest, I don't remember using an apostrophe after the s at all, probably did in hight school, or was supposed to.
stuff-sometimes too much.
Yes, I am certain. I suppose I've been obsessed with correct spelling for as long as I can remember. Errors stand out for this reason.
Best regards,
use of the apostrophe for the plural case. :)

Guess what my pet peeves are....(-:
your reply is another example of incorrect context. I think you meant to say that I'm a loser . As opposed to something like "my pants are looser now that I've lost weight".
-cheek, ironic meaning to my post...i.e, both the your (adjective) vs. you're (contraction of you are) and the use of looser when loser is the proper spelling seem to be two of the most common word usage errors on the internet, and, as I hoped to imply, kind of drive me nuts.I thought the smiley face would highlight my intentions. I certainly in no way think "your a looser".(-:

"And if I still blow it, I have one last chance before someone responds-I copy the text, delete, and then paste and make my changes."That's why I used to do too and I find it boring and time-consuming, compared to other forums where you can just revise your text.
Typed "that's why" instead of "that's what". Just goes to prove my point!
JB
In your post above you typed;"That's why I used to do too......".
Spelling's one thing, grammar's another although Google's grammar check is also quite effective. :0)
"That's why I used to do too and I find it boring and time-consuming, compared to other forums where you can just revise your text."If this forum were a car it would be a Model T with a rod knocking.

Could you not simply prepare your response on WP software (Word, etc.) which would automatically apply various spell-ceck routines, and then just "cut and paste" the (corrected!) version into your AA correspondence, prior to submission?....Having any "general edit" facility would obviously run the risk of changing the context of comments to which other inmates had already responded!...
Bill.
