I looked through every audio category, including vintage. I have never seen so much junk in one place. Before my self imposed moratorium, I always saw a lot I wanted to bid on.
The other thing I noticed is that the conditions are all grossly inflated. Everything is mint, minty (what the hell does that mean?) or excellent. Then you look closely at the photos and the component is a mess. And the prices! Are they crazy? Then I notice suckers placing stupid high bids.
I hope ebay goes away and dies.
Audiogon is of course better, but not like it was a few years back. The pawn shops and scammers are there in full force too.
The asylum classifieds are still a safe bet, imo.

Nightdoggy says, " And the prices! Are they crazy? Then I notice suckers placing stupid high bids. "Well, if prices are too high you don't have to match the stupid bids. However most often the goods go for pretty much their market values, that is, a value that is consistent eBay prices for the same item -- and that's generally cheaper that asking prices on Audiogon.

tell me about it- not long ago I bought a vintage cassette deck from Ebay, said it only was missing the knobs- it shows up- turns out it was partially stripped !cord cut off at the machine- main drive motor and belts gone- 2 speed switch gone- 8 hardware bolts gone
when I emailed the seller, he said send back the few good parts that were left, and he'd refund 1/3 the total price
now that's customer service ! I keep the worthless stuff, and send back the few things worth anything, for a 1/3 refund
talk about narcissistic...Ebay sellers take it to a new level- and the sheenies and scammers ruined that market outlet
Yes, you must sort through a lot of garbage and scams to find the good stuff, but did you expect to find everyone lined up, waiting to sell you their precious Sonic Bazzoomba for a song because you're smart enought to go on ebay and no one else is? Along with the increased exposure of goods for sale, comes increased awareness of an item's value. Therefore, people like you who were perfectly happy to take advantage of someone else's ignorance in the past, are having a lot harder time finding something to steal. Get over it. It's called a market, and it's truly free. If you don't care for the selection of items or the prices being asked, go somewhere else and shop. Good luck finding better deals than you can on ebay.I think what some "audiophiles" do is buy something on ebay at a decent price and then mark it up ten or twenty percent to sell on Audiogon because that's a classier site, and there is a willing populace, waiting there to be fleeced for the latest, overpriced, audio doo-dad. Ebay is still the place to hunt for good deals, and it is a valuable tool for those who seek something of lower value than the audio snobbery stuff being pedaled on Audiogon. That's right, folks, someone might actually want to buy that used Onkyo receiver that you wouldn't deign to put in your dog's house.
So don't be a sucker, doggy: go buy some outrageously expensive piece of breakdown-prone junk on Audiogon, and sit on your cryogenically-treated throne, looking down your phase-aligned nose at the thronging masses who are stupid enough to pay $50 for a receiver or CD player that will work perfectly for the next eight years and give more musical pleasure than you'll ever get out of an $1800 AC filter or that $850 vibration isolation platform. High-end audio is just as big a scam, and we're all suckers, or, at least, inmates.
...and it arrivred in great shape andworked well.

Later Gator,
Crank up your talking machine, grab a jar of your favorite "kick-back", sit down, relax, and let the good times roll.Eagles may soar, but weasels do not get sucked into jet engines.

I have several CD's by the Synonymous Four. They are quite good. And excellent spellers. Scammers and cheats I think are in the same category. Hackers are special... And small businesses seeking to sell everything do not exist, since if they are small they usually don't have that infinite inventory we crave. But don't get paranoid Bruce just because you have that D after your name!

Times are changing. Prices are indeed increasing for hard to find components, especially from reputable sellers.Unfortunately, fraud is increasing as well.
You have to be careful but...there is a whole world of cool stuff available to us :)
