Given the rough estimate of ~10% of total budget = cables, and assuming a total for equipment of close to $5k, any recommendations for the following at a total budget of ~$550:a) Balanced (XLR-XLR) Analogue interconnect pair (0.5m to 1.0m)
b) Bi-wire speaker cable (2 x 4m)Bearing in mind he would have to buy from the limited range of brands available here in S. Africa, such as:
- AudioQuest
- Ecosse
- Harmonic Technology
- Ixos
- Kimber
- MIT
- Monster (shudder)
- Nordost
- QED
- Straight Wire
- Supra
- Van den Hul(To those "purist" General Inmates, my apologies for not posting this in Cable Asylum - I wanted to maintain the context....)

Follow Ups:
I love the Kimber KCAG silver interconnects... great stuff!Kimber 8TC (braided blue) speaker wire was good but a little soft in the bass response - at least with my tube amps. I prefer Analysis Plus Oval 9 speaker cables. (Even the cheap bulk Audioquest Slate or Bedrock speaker cables from Audio Advisor had better bass vs the Kimber 8TC).
and compared well against others in their price-ranges...
I have used 4PR, 4TC, 4TC doubled to approximate 8TC, Binocle (is it really called that?) and Kimber Select 3033 speaker cables; PBJ and Hero interconnects and have found them all to represent very good value.
At whatever price point I think Kimber would be a good choice.
