If a person does not care about surge protection, would not specialty power cords work just as well as any power conditioner? Then would there not be any worries of current limiting?
Follow Ups:
I found it took the life out of the music. I tried plugging into only the cd player but it still did something I did'nt like. I bought a couple of harmonic technology ac11 power cords instead. I will reserve judgement till I get some serious listening in. P.S. I tried the power conditioner with my plasma setup and it did nothing at all. I ended up buying a $200 Furman pst-6 and it actually improoved the picture quality. I did not even bother trying the furman with my audio rig. Thanks again

A good non-filtering power strip can sound amazing. i use the BPT PPC with an SWO-XXX outlet in the wall, sounds great.never compared it to a power conditioner though. I don't leave my gear plugged in, so keeping it simple was easy for me.
I don't think you can substitute one for the other though...
"If a person does not care about surge protection, would not specialty power cords work just as well as any power conditioner?"In a word....No.
I will admit that there are some PC products on the market that will do more harm than good BUT there are also some outstanding units out there that when implemented, are VERY hard to remove from ones system.
One of THE best upgrades I have done to my system(s) is to convert to balanced power. The advantages FAR outweigh the drawbacks.
I've included a link to Balanced Power Technologies if U wish to peruse what balanced power offers which is much more than just a "filter" so to speak.

Nope. I suggest checking out the Audience website, and reading up. Quality power-conditionng is flat_out amazing. I was skeptical, until I learned and auditioned.
Sherlock,Did you compare the Audience against the PS Audio Premier Power Plant? I would be very interested to hear any opinions on this.
No. The amount of actual filtration of line grunge by a six foot length of wire is minimal.Aloha,
I'm not sure any power-cord would 'filter grunge' unless some form of filter or power conditioner was incorporated, and thicker power cables don't offer more power as such than supplied cables because the mains circuit is the restricting factor; a separate circuit/spur is what you'd need.I'd say power cords have an influence on equipment due to the different vibration frequencies, RFI rejection and quality of the contact with the equipment.
