Cheap'n'cheerful.I have two Oppos. HD981 and HD970.
I think that neither are giant killers used as a stock form. And between those players they sound different, too.
I haven't done any meaningful AB to see how they are as a stand-alone transport as I normally use it with a Panasonic digital receiver's digital input.
Note that the video performance on those players are pretty impressive for the money, however.
did you ever a-b with Pioneer DV 5xx or the Samsung or Toshiba entries? It would seem to common wisdom here that Oppo is superior? Or maybe their TV picture is?btw, your stuff in the gallery and systems is impressive indeed!
*did you ever a-b with Pioneer DV 5xx or the Samsung or Toshiba entries?*
Every few years I try much touted so=called giant killer DVD players. The Oppos were for the replacement for the Toshiba 3960, Sony NS500 and Pioneer DV525.Whilst I haven't direct ABed them, they all sound mediocre.
Altho, they offer a pretty decent performance, hosts of features and flexibility for the money, there's nothing musically interesting going on.*It would seem to common wisdom here that Oppo is superior? Or maybe their TV picture is?*
Both Oppo's video performance are very good beating Pioneer Elite plasma's built in scaler.
