Yes, but it only takes about 30 seconds per side.

at least in my experience and I've got the original RD-2 which takes 20 seconds a side so 40 seconds a disc plus time to turn the disc over as well.I will admit that the time delay DID annoy me initially and I would fail to use it on every disc BUT I got used to the delay and started to accept it as part of using the machine. When that happened, I stopped being annoyed. If anything, after using it for nearly a year now, I'd probably say that a little bit of a break between taking one disc off and putting another on is a good thing in that it gives me a bit of space in which to finish 'digesting' the first disc and clear my mind a bit so I can approach the next disc a little fresher.
Now I will add a proviso here. I don't listen to many long works that spread over 2 discs, and by long works I mean things like operas where the disc breaks can fall during a scene at a point of musical transition from one theme to another where, in live performance, there would be no break. I can definitely understand the delay being more annoying at those times, especially because sometimes just the act of having to change a disc at those times disrupts the flow of the music. That kind of break is rarely the case when I change discs. If you're an opera lover or like long, sprawling symphonies that take 2 discs, then you may well find the delay more unacceptable than do others but, even so, it is possible that you may come to appreciate the break at other times. It's also worth noting that the LP demagnetiser can treat 5 CDs at once so digital opera lovers can treat all discs before starting to play a multi-disc work and not have this annoyance. The last time I looked, even Gotterdamerung could fit onto 5 discs and I think I may even have seen mention of a 4 disc set.
Obviously you're not a perfectionist and true audiophile. Maybe you belong someplace else, although it does seem at least half this board, maybe just the super-vocal minority, would agree its not worth it to try to get the best from any recording. Let's change this to the low-def ipod forum and be done with it.
