I use an old Nortronics bulk eraser and then the Mapleshade Ionoclast for best CD/SACD/DVD-A sound. So, destaticing and demagetizing records should be considered. They are not the same. I have tried one and the other and then both....the CDs sound the best after both processes....I demagnetize first and then Ionoclast. The Talisman may or may not be better than a bulk eraser.......has anyone compared them?
Follow Ups:
It is definitely audible and when combined with the green pen tames the dead awful(rock fans know what I mean, although there is nothing you can do about an Albini...) in the execrable, that is, bad cd's in cheap universal players.
I use the Furutech RD-2 and follow up with a Zerostat. You are definitely right about demagnetising and static charge elimination being different things. My feeling when I got the RD-2 was that, on its own, it gave a slightly better improvement than the Zerostat and doing both treatments was better than either alone.
I used to use both the bulk eraser and the Bedini but found the smaller Furutech unit outperformed this combo. When I got the Talisman, I found the Furutech actually removed the benefits of the Talisman. Fortunately, redoing with the Talisman restored the benefits. It seems clear that there is more to all of this than merely removing static electricity. Down here in the humid South, we have little static charge problem, but the Talisman transforms the performance of both discs and records. Demagnifying is not a simple process.
