which I've never understood. I listen to a lot more than rock music nowadays, but yes I very much enjoy rock music on a good system. Not much of what you mention, but Roxy Music, Can, Nick Cave, Cramps, garage rock compilations....no they don't all sound great. But they sound a hell of a lot better than they do in the car.
Follow Ups:
Bruce edgar's edgarhorns driven by a BEL Class A amp. put on dark side of the moon and i ran behind the couch for cover. talk about headroom!
I have some horns that were designed very similarly to these,
have you heard of the JBL "la scala"?
the peavey sp-1 has the same dimensions as the las scala just doesnt have a 2 inch diaphraghm it has a 1 inch~
folded horn / horn loaded cabs~ about 100lbs a piece!
I use those at some live venues when I want something in a small place with a lot of headroom, very loud, I reloaded the cabs with some eminence gamma's (15 inch) and there was not a whole lot of
low end before I reloaded these things, but now they almost dont need a sub.
I built a sub with a Gauss 18 inch cast frame, it extends to about 23-29 hz, not bad for a apogee driver.
sometimes when I have company over I will wheel them into the living room and scare the hell out of the friends and family. @ 120 db haha!

never heard of jbl la scala, only klipsch la scala.when you say you built a sub, you built the driver? if so, that's very cool!
you are right. cones are good for rock, ESLs and ribbons can sorta rock, but horns DO ROCK! if you mainly listen to high spl rock, you need some horns!
I rebuilt the driver, added ferrofluid, larger spider, and surround. and the such~ and son on~ the voice coil is a little beefier than the apogee bsx series driver oem had in it, so I asked for a new one from a bsx series made specifically for sub cabs, it has made all the diffference, I was afraid the gap in the mag structure wasnt going to be big enough, but it was and then some.
also I soldered some larger gauge wires to the terminals from the v.c.
Im still building a cabinet to load it in~
Its all still being worked on, when its done I will have to post a pic!
