I'm very happy with my main room setup, but I spend a lot of time listening in my bedroom. Right now, I just have a little headphone setup that I use - a Jolida amp, with a decent little Cambridge 500se CDP into a pair of Sennheiser 590's.But, I sometime tire of using headphones and would like to get away with a less than $2000 system by adding an integrated and a pair of bpkshelves or standmounts. I am talking less than 2000 used.
The only criterion for the integrated is that it have a remote control for volume. My listening space is fairly small but with high ceilings and a lot of bright, bare reflective walls. I will probably put the speakers right at the foot of the bed for nearfield listening. They dont need to play excessively loud. My main system is neutral, so I would kind of like speakers on the warm, almost syrupy side for mostly vocals and aooustic music. I would like something that sounds similar to the Vienna Accoustics, if that gives you and idea of what I am talking about.
Can someone point me to some good pairings to consider? I have just never listend my many integrateds and smaller speakers so I dont know what is even out there. Thanks, Dave

This is a small little 3-5W int amp. It's really small and if you get some high effeciency speakers 89db or higher - it will do the trick quite nicely!I have heard this integrated and it's not a bad little amp. It's not going to blow away your top end units, but it's just about perfect for a bed room system geared toward jazz, vocals, accoustic. I am not a SET guy, but this thing is perfect for a small little office or bedroom system.
I have seen these go for as little as $400 used and Sophia has some demo units every once and while.
It's worth consideration.
The April Music Aura Note. It's a CD/Tuner/Amp combo that may be a bit above your budget, but if it sounds as good as it looks, it's got to be a winner. Pair it up with some high quality small speakers and you're good to go. Check out the 6moons write up at the link below.
I like them. I keep them on my nightstands, pointed towards my head. They're quite inexpensive, around $200 three years ago. I thought about the Spendors mentioned above, but I had a pair of BC1s a few years back, and did not like them at all. I read about the Atoms in an MSNBC article by Gary Krakow on a "$1,000 high end system." I like them so well, I bought a pair of more expensive Paradigms for the LR. They're good speakers that call no attention to themselves. They just play the music.
from personal experience i would lean towards something with good low-level detail, unless you plan to/can crank it up. I have had good results with the triangle titus ex and 202, and a diy single-driver thingy. lol.
I, too, have a small bedroom. Not wanted to clutter up my resting space I decided to use a Tivoli Model 2 with an iPod. Good enough for my bedroom and lots of music at hand. Today, I would probably buy the George, a new compact iPod speaker system. I just read a review on iLounge and it stated that the sound would appease audiophiles. The really nice thing about the George is that it comes with a remote that has a screen that allows you to view and select from your iPod's entire list of music.Another option if you want more of a full system is the Arcam Solo with something like a pair of Aperion speakers.
An Audio Analogue integrated (check out www.underwoodhifi.com)
Spendor S3/5 speakers
I talked to Wally and I think I am leaning toward the Augio Analogue unit that he has for $900 which normally goes for $1500 - apparently its the 100 watt unit, not the 70 watt unit that is shown on his site.He says that I can get the new Quad 22L v2 plus the integrated for about $1800 delivered. Seems reasonable to me....
I keep reading so much about the Spendors. Would they be a warmish sounding speaker with good low-level details for nighttime acoustics and vocals? I will check into the Audio Analogue as well as I have bought a lot of good stuff from Wally = he's a good guy. Doesnt he also sell a lot of Quad stuff? Maybe there would be something appropriate from them? Dave
I have the Spendors in my office running off a Jolida 202a at very low volume. They sound really nice. Good detail and not bright or overbearing at all. I have the Quad surrounds. You might want to check out the Triangle stuff that he carries too. I have a pair of the larger Triangle Alteas, but I have heard the bookshelf models. They are great for the money. A little less refined than the Spendors, but nice with a bit of "drama" to the sound.
I consider mine overkill for the bedroom but it has everything I need in there. Remote, CD, tuner, and alarm clock. It doesn't take up much room, has a polite sound, and looks nice.
I actually have it hooked up to some old Radio Shack speakers with the Lineaum tweeter at the moment. That's a nice tweeter.

How about ...
1. Outlaw RR2150 receiver (new-$600)
2. Legacy Studio speakers (new - $1400)
