If someone asked me if I was anointed to be God for a day, I'd do just two things. I'd zap Pro Tools audio software suite and asynchronous sample-rate conversion from the face of the earth.I think the consumer public ought to be educated on this. Big time. Maybe when they learn Celine Dion (big letdown), Barbra Streisand, Sting, Aguilera, Juanes, Il Divo, Andrea Bocelli (surprise), Seal, David Bowie, Elton John, Shania Twain (letdown), Michael Buble (letdown) and many other "respected" artists use this "pitch correcting" software, and how it just destroys the emotional element in singing, the public will wake up. I think they don't even realize they're being duped into thinking the vocalists are a lot better than they really are.
The widespread use has become epidemic. It's difficult to find singer who do **not** use it. The whole music industry has become so phony, it isn't even funny.
The singing sounds generic and synthesized, and everybody who uses it almost sounds exactly the same. It's almost as if they're all playing a kazoo.
Maybe I shouldn't be so hard on Kurt Elling. At least he avoids using it. Not to mention the true greats like the Who's Pete Townshend/Roger Daltrey.
I wonder why the singers on American Idol don't get this treatment.
Follow Ups:
...I heard him live, back in the day, singing at the piano and his pitch was always spot-on -- not to mention his expressivity.
yep, Elton was about way before the pitch shifter, and always seemed pretty spot on !!Still, it wouldn't surprise me if some of this more recent concerts and recording may possibly have utilised it. He isn't getting any younger y'know!
I thought nobody was more spot-on than Elton John in his prime.
