Is this the only way audiophiles will be able to get their music in the future. I would think it would reintroduce learning to play an instrument or go outdoors and hear real noises, such as birds and wind.
...and I am appalled." - The Future.:-)
only kidding.

That would be very cool. Maybe there's an upside.
Cheers,
Jim, who would spend more time outside listening to wind and birds if it were not so damned cold here in Maine in winter.
The hawks are coming through also, but no hummers yet.
This may be a silly question. But does 320kbs really mean audiophile quality music? I mean the playback is only as good as the recoding.
There will always be those who are bothered by the dust in the air affecting their playback, and therefore would never stoop to litening to compressed audio, but at 320kbps, the average listener can't hear the difference between this and an uncompressed WAV file. Most can't hear the difference at 192kbps.
You've answered your own question.
So ontrack2,
We are back on square one. Do you know any audiophile quality radio stations?
Hello VeeJay,I don't mean to waste your time as it's not audiophile quality but I feel compelled to recommend kexp.org - it's completely renewed my faith in pop music. I see a lot of discussion and comments on these boards regarding the quality of today's music scene and many complain that there is no good new music. It's out there - but the music distribution money-grubbing juggernauts sure make it difficult to get to.
KEXP has turned me on to a ton of new music and I feel the need to spread the love. My favorite shows are the morning and afternoon shows, but they've got something for everybody; Swingin' Doors, Sonic Reducer, Shake the Shack, Expansions, their programming is quite varied.
Their website is fantastic; streaming archives, live playlists, a great blog and killer podcasts. And it's all free! They are a listener supported station so no commercials. Of course that means the occasional fund drive but even those are fun with few breaks and long sets of music.
You can check out any of the shows via the streaming archives - you may just find something you really enjoy.
Happy listening!
Shaun
Try WIDR, it's part audiophile, as I DJ there:
radio evolutionBy the way, they have an all vinyl show on Sundays done by a friend of mine.

I completely agree with Shaun's assessment of KEXP. The stream quality can't be considered "audiophile" by any stretch of the imagination, but the station is an invaluable resource for music fans.I don't follow contemporary music, but what little I hear filtering in from TV and FM radio is faceless, unimaginative, unchallenging and empty. But just when I've written off modern music altogether, I tune into KEXP or a small handful of other top-notch college stations and hear that good, even great, music is still being made. It's just being ignored by commercial radio and the major labels.
