Accuphase has pin 3 as "hot" on their equipment. This used to be the standard used for pro audio. Then about 10 years ago the IEC recommended that pin 2 be "hot". So there has been a slow convergence towards this standard. However, if you have a fully Accuphase system (or other brand that uses pin 3 as "hot", such as Rowland), then polarity will be preserved.
...it will probably get corrupted somewhere down the line anyway.
As an Accuphase and Jeff Rowland customer, I'm sorry to report that the latter has defected to the other polarity camp.
< < I'm sorry to report that the latter has defected to the other polarity camp. > >Well, I guess it was inevitable. You can always correct the polarity at the speaker leads.
The awareness will enable users concerned about it to address the issue. Otherwise no big deal.I guess those who own Accuphase gear might appreciate the info.
JBL used to use a convention that applying a positive voltage to the black terminal of their raw drivers would result in the cone moving outwards. This was the reverse of nearly all other manufacturers. About ten years ago, they changed this to conform with accepted practice. If you do a Google search, you can find a list of which JBL drivers use which polarity convention.
Charles:I was unaware that they switched away from their atypical convention!
Darned good thing to know! I will acquire that list.
I do wind up in the back of pro-sound boxes from time to time. Wouldn't want to muck up drivers that are CORRECTLY wired out of sheer ignorance!
Thank you for taking the time to post that.

of being correct, it won't make a difference would it?

...certain conventions must be adopted, foremost among them the XLR ambiguity.
who claims that any attempt to establish polarity conventions is useless because "no standards exist." Your exact words.
The hypocrisy is appalling.
Please, I do believe you do need medical help: seriously.
