Very well-priced stuff.
Follow Ups:
Can we be sure they are not seconds? I have had some experience with some stores in Canal Street manned by guys wearing strange robes who sold me *new* Fisher receiver at half price which sounded pretty bad.Well, this was in 1967. Perhaps there are no seconds now. Everything made in China could be seconds which makes them firsts. In any case I would be suspicious of stores located in Manhattan on streets with names, not numbers.
As with anything, you have to know what you're buying. I remember when I lived in NYC in the late 80s I bought a used Dynaco Stereo 35 for $100 from an electronics store on Canal Street which also sold used tubes for a buck a tube - that store no longer exists. It was sitting on a shelf behind the counter, andI bought it because it was cute, about the size of a loaf of bread, and it was a Dyna and they designed good stuff. It worked and sounded fine (still does). It was the only time I have seen a Stereo 35, before or since - they now sell on ebay for three times what I paid for it.
I wouldn't buy anything today with the Fisher name on it The closeouts are clearly marked. Some are used, some open box, some returns, some refurbs, some B-stock and some are just left-over. J&R is not a store on Canal Street.
also Mashuguna Mike.
I can't imagine why someone saved a Crazy Eddie commercial for a quarter century but you can watch it aon You Tube. This is perhaps the chain's best commercial of the hundreds and hundreds they did. Hell, it's one of the best commercials for anything ever. There are several other CE commercials on You Tube, just do a search on Crazy Eddie
Check out the Crazy Eddie Tribute Page , which includes one of his old TV commercials!
Best regards,
They never handled anything of interest (to me).
CE was where you got your Kenwood receiver and JBL speakers when *that* was hifi!We looked forward to those commercials when I was in college--too bad he turned out to be a crook.
the amount of business Crazy Eddie had was huge.I had personally taken more than 10 coworkers to the shop to buy all kinds of recievers of Japanese origin, very good ones like Pioneer,Marantz,JVC et al with exceptional tuners. The price was so low my friends were all very happy.I dont quite remember the speakers he had.
When Crazy Eddie was in his heyday, I had already moved to Dyna/Marantz separates and IMF transmission-line speakers and beyond.
