Hi: This online store seems to be one of the few selling a few true high end items on the internet with a money back guarantee. I've seen others like avhifi.com, audioadvisor.com and others selling mid-fi gear. But these guys are selling some expensive high end gear (example: the Esoteric X01 Reference $14k, EMM Labs CDSA $10k). With their 30 day money back guarantee, it appears it's one of the few opportuniities to buy high end gear and still have the ability to return it for a refund if the performance is not satisfying in your setup. We all know how elusive system synergy is. What are your experiences dealing with musicdirect.com? I've purchased some inexpensive accessory items from them and returned an item once. Anyone buy their more expensive high end gear and return it? Thanks
Follow Ups:
Positive experience. Most expensive item a 3.5k Marantz CD player. They have expanded a lot indicating that there are many satisfied customers.
Very poor. I would not consider buying expensive items from them. They cancel orders without telling you. Long delays and damaged items on stuff they do send.
I've bought various software and hardware from MD for almost a decade with excellent service and problem free returns, if necessary. In particular, in ca. 1999 I bought about $4.5K+ of analogue-related equipment from them - no problems; enjoyed the equipment. In 2006, I bought a ~$4K(MSRP) tube phono pre-amp. I returned the unit because it did not work well in my set-up. No problem; the return was handled with dispatch.
Although my purchases were not at the same price points you mention, if I were in the market for any of those units, I would not hesitate to acquire them from MD (assuming no local dealer stocked them).
Mostly software and accessories, but a few components too, including an Esoteric DV-60. They even gave a year's free financing, though I didn't need the full term. Some have had bad things to say about them, but my experience has been perfect. Deal with Jason or Bes, and you'll be in good hands.
I've bought a few LP's from them in the past, and several bottles of cleaning fluids. Delivery was very fast (I used the phone). Can't see anything wrong with them so far.
gary
I have purchased a few things there as well, including my Trigon Vanguard II/Volcano II.The only thing to be aware of is that they drop-ship or don't have in stock a lot of their stuff. Additionally, I'm in Canada, so they can't drop ship and everything has to be shipped to musicdirect, the customs forms etc. filled out, then shipped to me.
In general, I find that Elusive Disk has more stock, so shipping is quicker.
