I'm getting a loud but intermittent hum through both of my speakers at system turn-on. It could happen after 1 time or after a dozen times of turning on the system, unpredictable. And, after powering down the system, it may come back the very next time at turn-on, or not be heard for many more turn-on cycles; but always right at turn-on (not during play). I then disconnected and unpluged all sources. I've replaced all interconnects, speaker cables and a/c cords, and still I get a hum. All I had connected was the preamp, amp, and a pair of Martin Logan SL3 'stats. And it still hums. I've tried 2 different amps, and 2 different Audible Illusions M3A preamp/units. And, yet, the hum persists, intermittently. What the heck is going on? Any thoughts, recommendations????

Dynamo Hum, dynamo hum. Where's that dynamo coming from? Done spent three hours.....

Only the hifi is connected to these outlets. I've been using these same outlets for my hifi for the last 11 years with no hum issues whatsoever. I'm befuddled. I assume that if the 'stat p/s was causing a problem that the hum would occur only on that one bad speaker. Since, both speakers are humming, I assume it's not the speakers. Is it possible that AI M3A preamps, in general, have some odd electrical interaction with my system so as to cause this intermittenet hum? Keep in mind that I'm getting the hum after trying to different AI M3A units, as well as, 2 differenct amps.
I have the same thing happens to me. Every time I moved or replaced something in my equipment it hums for a while for no other reasons. In my case sometimes the hum lasted for 3 weeks and then it goes away. As the matter of fact it happened to me not very long ago when I upgraded the BNC input of my dac unit to a better quality RCA type input so I can use my Kimber AGDL coaxial cable with it. It hums for almost 2 weeks. Why don’t you let it go for a while to find out if the hum will go away on its own if not it could be the tubes in the pre amp that’s causing it.
Jeez...the one thing that I would check would be the interconnects. Maybe one of them is opening up a ground lead causing the problem.
So, I'd get one pair of interconnects that you KNOW are good, start at the pre-amp/power-amp and work your way backwards. I'm not familiar with electrostatic speakers, but I know most of them require AC power. Maybe something in one of their power supplies is amiss. Do you have pair of non-powered speakers? If so, I'd disconnect the Martic Logan's and hook those up just to verify whether they are the culprit or not. Good luck!!!
