In Reply to: I have been waiting almost 2 years for my E46 M3... posted by Suzy on February 08, 2001 at 19:00:03:
Well, I just took delivery of my E46 330i sport/premium, black on black, one week ago now. Other than the overboosted steering that everyone has been bitching about (they're right) and the gawdawful factory stereo (ick), the car is fabulous, much much better than my former '98 E36 328i. I think you'll pee your pants if you ever DO get an M3 in, but really, you wouldn't be roughing it with a 330i. It is a superb car and barely tops $40K sticker with options. If you get sick of waiting, I don't think you'd cry over driving this baby around for awhile. I actually drove a '98 E36 M3 that a guy just traded in on an X5 last week, as I waited on my car to get prepped. The new 330i is just about as fast, just a pinch slower. Nice job BMW....
Follow Ups:
if u ever get the chance, have a drive of a 1986 M3. I think it was '86, the first ones were for racing homolagation. now man, these things were a weapon. puts a current m3 to shame (including the hideous M3r). though the '86 M3 is probably a collectors item now.Mark
pit crew for more club racers then i can remember. still think the '72 ford escort mk1 with the cosworth bdg engine was the crazies car i've ever worked on. 12,000rpm from an all steel, twin cam 1600cc 1971 engine. hollies too!! 300bhp at the flywheel, 850kg dry weight.
