In Reply to: I've just finished listening the DSOTM Quad mix via hard disk playback - wow! posted by Christine Tham on April 1, 2006 at 00:01:31:
How about when Parry's sax kicks in for the first time?2/3'ds of the way into The Great Gig in the Sky, Clare Torry say's something. You can barely make it out if at all on the original Parson 2 channel mix and the Guthrie mix for SACD it's questionably located in the left rear speaker. For the quad mix, Guthrie brought out the vocal and put it center stage and brought it out so you can hear what she's saying, finally.
Over all, there are things I like about the SACD mix and things I like about this one better. I think that if Parsons had more time with this one...it would blow the sacd mix out of the water.
Thank you very much, Mr. Supo for bringing this to us. Now...could you find the original quad mixes for Wish You Were Here? :D
Follow Ups:
This was always muddy and undecipherable on the original 2ch mix, but i could always make out what she's saying on the Quad LP.However, having said that, there's no question that it's crystal clear on this disc, it's almost as if she was in the room uttering those words rather than "mumble mumble mumble ..." :-)
No doubt about it. This version rocks the house.
Not sure if this is kosher to discuss here but can anybody advise me as to where I could get a copy of this?
Thanks in advance!
Jon
