How long ? I have read in the asylum that it takes up to 300 hrs...

In Oz it was a choice between the Rotel, the Arcam and the Rega Planet, all around the same money.
I couldn't get into the looks of the Rega but (ever so) slightly preferred its beautiful organic sound to the Arcam's detail. The Rotel was in the same league as these 2 in terms of price only...I bought the Arcam.
Then again, had I heard only the Rotel against my old player, I would have still been happy.
Too much choice.

I owned mine for 2 months. Initally I let it play on repeat 24-7 for a week. It got a little bit better but it couldn't even come close to the Arcam CD73 player that I also purchased. This is when the Arcam was brand new with no burn-in time. I still have the Arcam and it sounds sweet. The Rotel is long gone via Audiogon. Do your ears a favor and return that Rotel for a refund, then buy an Arcam. It is superior in ALL respects and costs the same.

  Anyone else here besides this guy have experience with the Rotel and compared it to other players in the same price range?
  For what it's worth, I've read complaints about the Arcam CD73 online as well.

    I was O.K. with the sound of the 1072 in the two months that I owned it, even though it wasn't a huge improvement over my old Rotel 855, and as far as presenting an involving performance it wasn't even as good.
    Then I heard the Arcam and it was all over for the 1072.
    You have a problem with me "dissing" the Rotel? I'm just trying to save this guy from making a mistake. I haven't read anywhere on the Asylum where the 1072 was preferred over the Arcam, and Would you please indicate which messages didn't like the Arcam, cause I haven't seen any of those either

      Don't misunderstand me: I have no problem with you, or anyone, dissing the Rotel (or any other component, for that matter). I just would like to see messages from other people on this topic. When I was doing searches here to check out opinions RE: the Rotel, your name came up over and over and over again.
      Follow the link below, and you'll find a lukewarm review of the Arcam by Hi-Fi Choice.
      And, for what it's worth, the Arcam retails for $100 more than the Rotel.

        That's a review of the CD72, not the CD73, which uses the Wolfson DAC. I paid $699 for my 1072 and also $699 for the CD73.

        that's basically what HiFi Sound here in Minneapolis said, and they are dealers for both brands. Now what to do with that Rotel? If you haven't owned it for too long just take it back for a refund.

  Was this the same unit that got glowing reviews in TAS? My local dealer (SF Stereo) was trying to push this player on me based on this review and a supposed "customer" that preferred this over a Marantz 8200 all-in-one player.

    ...and I bought mine at San Francisco Stereo. The sales guys could quote that "TAS" review by heart. I didn't care for how the Rotel sounded in the shop (the setup is kinda screwy), but it sounds great at home. Can't compare it to the Arcam player because I haven't heard it.

      ...at SF Stereo on Market St. It's right at the entrance and in a system with AP Spark IIIs.
      Very odd to be able to listen to it carefully unless you have no idea what you are listening to other than hearing the SFStereo salespeople spew on about how good it is. It kinda turned me off from even considering taking it home for an audition, although I know I'm doing a disservice to it by not doing so.
      That upstairs room at SFStereo is even more wonkier...I played a CD that I *KNOW* has some weird phase effects going on which placed certain sounds way off to the right of the speakers, but the way they had the Burmester system set up with the Dynaudio Temptations (I believe they were Temptations) leads me to believe it wasn't properly set up to begin with. The soundstaging effects weren't there.

The sales guys were raving about the 1072, and I was like, "The sound is dry and flat." I'd done some research on it, so I came to the shop somewhat prepared. I took one home because I figured the setup was the big problem. And it was, IMHO.
        Service at S.F. Stereo can be weird. It depends on who you talk to. I felt I got a real hard sell regarding the Rotel, which made me a little annoyed. I got really annoyed when the sales guy tried to bully me into buying $180 ICs (and "bully" is not too strong of a word). But the guy who helped me buy speakers a while back was great.

        YOU like the sound of your Rotel :) So enjoy it! I have not had the chance to compare the 73T to the 1072 nor hear them both in fact - but whatever - all that matters is if you are happy with how yours is - I can tell from your post that you are :)
        If someone else listend to the two and liked A better than B great - good for them they SHOULD buy what sounds better to them - but ultimately - its your ears :)
        So just relax - don't worry about defending your well regarded product (and i am not being sarcastic) and simply ENJOY the music :)
