I am useing a Accuphae transport & pre/dac combo which are both final versions of redbook only playback models by the mfgr.
There is much to read about how "newer is better" but I also read that some prefer CD only production models for redbook........so, since almost all my CD's are redbook I would appreciate some opinions regarding updating to new components.
Follow Ups:
I'd suggest you go listen to a few and see if it's worth replacing your current Accuphase.I do not know how old your DAC/transport are, but I don't think that newer does not mean always better.
But you should at least listen to newer Accuphase digital offerings, perhaps.Combination players never did anything both sonically and also from a lack of music selection, so they never were a consideration for me.
But you might think otherwise after hearing a few newer units.
Or you might still prefer your current Accuphase.I won't hung up on if they are dedicated CD only or hybrid players.
If the majority of the music you listen to is Red Book, you should judge any hybrid players on the Red Book format only.
I own a Krell's last CD only CD player. I liked it very much when I first listened to it back then, and I still love it for what it does well.
I finally retired it from my main rig this year but there wasn't a whole hell of a lot out there that I wanted to ditch my player in a hurry.
Thanks for your comments. I don't have a local dealer that could offer the service you suggested or offer evaluation components to try in my rig.
I would appreciate comments from anyone that has made the effort & what the final opinion was.
However, sometimes it is helpful if you get a response out of someone who is familiar with your specific Accuphase unit.
