I read thru the archives, and the it was suggested to listen to cymbals etc, and the implication was with asynchronos upsampling, they would be tiring after a bit.I tossed on a stock Behringer SRC2496 as a DAC. I prefer 88.2 upsampling over 44.1 which in turn I prefer to 96. And I prefer leaving it at 16bit.
Very interesting thread. Good stuff in the archives too.

"I tossed on a stock Behringer SRC2496 as a DAC."Since these things are relatively cheap, I decided to try one.... But after my disappointment in the Benchmark DAC1, which the 2496 is basically a "poor man's version" of, I'm not expecting the moon. I just want to see if its implementation of ASRC is maybe more-tolerable than what I've listened to in the past.
I have a Behringer SRC2496 AD-DA converter.
I feel that the better sound is when the DAC is used slaved to the transport (external mode), and not with reclocking.
The sound seems more natural to me.
I will wait for your impressions with the greatest interest. Thanks and regards,

What transport are you using? I need to get a transport with "slaving" capability, that doesn't require taking out a second-mortgage.....
The Prism DA-2 DAC is also capable of "slaving" the transport..... For all I know, I may not not heard the unit to its full potential.
Dear Mr Krieger,
thank you sincerely for your kind and, as always, extremely valuable reply.
Let me please explain myself better.
I was using (the SRC is in the closet at present) a very cheap Panasonic dvd player, model S47.
Even with this humble transport I perceived a more relaxed/natural sound with the clock set to external, i.e. using the clock of the Panasonic.
The "reclocked" option sounded more "electronic", IMHO of course.
As I understand you have at hand really good cd transports I feel you can confirm me that using the SRC without reclocking is indeed the most musical option.
Then the selection of a good transport should be my next task.
Another interesting experiment would be try using the XLR digital inputs for a better (?) digital transmission.
I think that a weak section of the SRC is the power supply.
It deserves better transformer and caps.
But this mod is difficult for the narrow smd pcb and it is a pity, because I feel that with just some Panasonic caps the bass would benefit.Thank you very much indeed.
Kindest regards,
