Hi All,
I am new here. I have built some tube amps, preamps, etc. I would like to convert some LP's and analog tapes to digital for loading onto my computer. I have a Mac, and would like something better than my iMic, but cannot afford the pro-audio A/D converters.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I prefer DIY if possible.
Thanks,
Doug in KC

Hi Doug,I've found diyaudio.com to be very helpful. You may do a search for ADCs.

DIY amplification has been around for decades and there are thousands of sources for building your own. It is also relatively easy to pull off especially with tubes.Digital is another story. You are dealing with RF frequencies and that can't really be pulled off without a well designed pcb. You can't really build a hand wired point to point circuit with IC chips at RF levels.
I can't imagine you can build an A/D for less than you can buy one. You can buy a decent unit for only a few hundred dollars. They pull this off with high volumes and surface mount circuits. You can't do this at home. It would be a fun learning exercise but the cost of your mistakes would quickly exceed the cost of a pro unit.
And with great sound too. This machine should meet your criteria. Not so hard to build.jh

Thanks for the reply. I didn't know if subassemblies were available; I guess not. And, no, I am not qualified to break new ground. Thanks, Doug
